New Kershaw Cryo G-10

My volt 2 had the same blade steel. Someone said that it would rust, so I wanted to see. I stood it in a jar of vinegar for over an hour, no discoloration at all. I'm not saying you can't corrode it. But it is not likely unless you try pretty hard, I think.

Thanks for your insight!

Nice. Should be reasonably easy to get them off with some wrapped vice grips, then.

Let us know how it turns out. The black studs don't bother me but I wouldn't mind seeing uncoated ones either.

Make sure you loctite them when you put them back in.

I like the looks of this knife, but I think it would be even better in canvas micarta.

I bought a Cryo after reading all the hype and it was the biggest piece of crap knife I have ever bought. Will never buy Kershaw China again. None of the screws were tight and the pivot pin was still sticking out 1/8th of an inch. After tightening everything up it wont even close as the speedsafe torsion bar seems to have bound up in some bizarre way that wont let it close. Not even going to bother taking it apart...

Sounds like you got a dud. If you got a good one (probably 95%+ of them are good) you'd probably be impressed. Send it in to Kershaw, they'll fix it

CC74, I'd have to agree with Spyder328, it sounds like you got a rare lemon. I've only got 1 Chinese Kershaw, my Cryo, and as most others have stated, it's a great bang for the buck. My pivot screw doesn't sit flush on either side but it is fastened down as far as it'll go and has no play at all. Sorry you got a dud and are less than impressed.

I'm an old fart who has a history of not particularly liking imported cutlery or current modern gimmickry. I do like the industrial look of frame lock knives. So I bought both a Cryo and Cryo II recently. Both are solid knives. Perfect fit, blades perfectly centered, no blade play, screws tight and the AO (which I really don't have much use for) works smoothly. I agree, the thumb studs are useless but for low-priced Chinese knives, they won me over. I do wish the Cryo was a half inch longer in the grip but I can live with it because I like the blade width and shorter blade length. I'll probably spring for a G-10 when I find one cheap enough.

Kershaw has a super warranty. If you got a bad sample that you didn't mess up yourself, Kershaw will make it right.

I kind of have to laugh when I read this stuff. I have owned from the chines Kershaw line ..a Tremor, 2 cryos, 2 select fires, 2 thermites, a chill, a brawler, and a kurai. Not one has displayed the conditions you describe. I've owned about 20 knives produced by KAI and while they certainly aren't perfect, I have a hard time believing they let one get out of the factory in the condition you described.

If they did, I can assure you that is a isolated incident and there is no reason to write off an entire line of products when they're backed by an unbeatable customer service department.

I too own a cryo and am impressed. It came from Walmart, the lockup is vault tight, Zero slop, the blade is perfectly centered, and it came shaving sharp. What more can you want from a knife, American or Chinese made.?

I picked up a G10 Cryo on the weekend. They've made slight refinements to the lock side compared to my original Cryo, the cutout for the lockbar itself is much thinnner, like the 566. The weight difference is slightly noticeable, the AO is pretty stiff compared to my other AO Kershaws/ZTs, as is the lockbar release. Both require significantly more pressure to deploy/release. I like the knife so hopefully the stiffness will loosen up with use.

Wowzers. My Chinese Cryo was finished BETTER than my US made ZT 0562! Weird, considering the Cryo was 1/8th the price, but I had to finish the ZT myself by centering the stop pin and filing down the sharp edges. The Cryo is superb, and I carry it the most. I permanently removed the thumbstuds with my vise and some NWS cobra pliers, to save weight - just kidding, not for the weight, but for the more streamlined pocketing ergos. The tiny spydehole it left looks dope too. I like how the lock-cut-out is much slimmer than the huge gaps of the earlier versions.
