Attention New measures to stop scams and dishonest behavior in the Exchange

Hmm…it has never seemed that way. I always thought that every 24 hours you were allowed to add a comment which would breathe new life into your sales thread and move it back to the top. Anything less would be counterproductive to your sale. Many other forums do it that way and sales get a lot more exposure. More exposure = faster interest/sale of your item. Pretty basic concept.

I agree that it's a nice feature but it does get views when it's bumped back into "what's new" in a similar way.

I guess I never realized that had changed. Sounds pretty lazy on the mods behalf but it is what it is I suppose 🤷🏻‍♂️. Good thing we’re not paying to use this forum….oh wait 🤔.
Mods are volunteers. We have other things to do both on and off the forum, than fuss with people abusing the bumping system, which was a common occurrence before Spark reorganized the sales forums some 15 years ago. If you have not noticed it for 15 years, then that change obviously has not affected you.

I’m confused… I thought we could not edit our sales post after so many minutes. This one has been edited throughout the day Marking items sold and taking out price.

That feature is not working properly yet-work in progress

We'll have to see how this goes as we move forward. There are literally hundreds of sale threads posted at any given time across categories and only a few mods who have to handle a variety of issues. It will be unrealistic to expect the mods to sit for hours at a time to edit sales threads to "Sold".

So, please help us out by posting in your sale thread in large, bold, letters that the item or items have been sold so that anyone interested can clearly see that the items are no longer available.

If the software still allows you to lock the thread at that juncture, do so. A moderator can still open or post in it if necessary.
I understand the logistics behind this rule, but it would be nice if sellers could mark the title as "sold" without causing heartburn.
This has been one of my pet peeves for a while... see a sale thread, excitedly open it and scroll down to respond, only to see "it's gone" or "sold"....

But, we roll with the flow.... you guys certainly have more on your plate than you need... your efforts are appreciated.

Eight pages now. Wow. And there I was trying to reduce my thread traffic by taking all dealings offline. Now I still have to go back in to my own thread to update it by replying to it. 🤯

It seems not many are following the new rules. You need an automated method of contacting sellers or adding a post to their sales threads. There is too much for the mods to keep track of, IMO.

It's a see something say something state.

I can’t seem to find it again but there are several. I did a Google search “is this picture photoshopped” and several websites popped up. I am not sure how reliable they are.

I just checked out something called "FotoForensics" guys. I made a separate thread in Tech support.

Please take all replies regarding the photoshopping tool to the other thread here in Tech support to avoid cross contamination.

Just some thoughts... I don't create a sales thread often (about once every 2-3 weeks) and when I do I load it up with 8-10 knives. When a knife does not sell, to create a new sales thread with a new hand-written date stamp definitely adds an inconvenience to take new photos with new label (BF User, Date Stamp, BFC). I edit the original post of the sales thread to update whether a knife has SOLD. For buyers to traverse the entire thread to see if it was sold is an inconvenience. Regardless, it's the cost of doing business.

I was thinking of keeping the photos for each knife but then a group photo of all the knives for sale to include the required BF User, Date Stamp, BFC. Would that be okay?

For months now, I've included the following at the top of my sales threads:
  • Please do NOT post anything in this Sales Thread until we have concluded a deal. There are scammers prowling the forum.
  • You can PM or Email me.
  • Blade Steel, Handle Material and 2 Pictures per Knife are included. Please Zoom in for a Closer Inspection.
  • Selling Price in USD includes Payment via PayPal Goods & Services.
  • Shipping included in the Price via USPS Priority Mail in a Box with Insurance.
  • Will Ship within 2 Business Days after Payment is received.
  • No Shipping on Weekends or USPS Holidays.
Spyderco Foundry, 2015 Spyderco & Carpenter Collaboration, 3.3” CTS-XHP Satin Blade, Stainless Steel Frame Lock, Brand New (Not Used or Carried), Includes Padded Zippered Pouch & Papers, $262.46 $216.95 $180.00 SOLD

Should we be reporting threads that don't have a timestamp? Seems like enforcing the change is going to be a full time job. Is it possible to mass DM paying members to alert them about the new requirements?

^^^^^^^^

It's going to take time...because:

A. Nobody reads, let alone follows the rules. (Okay, I'm overstating the matter for dramatic effect.)

B. It will take time for the requirement to sink in.

In regard to the time stamp, there is nothing wrong with any member alerting the seller to the requirement and requesting that they provide the time stamp photo.

If compliance is not obtained after a reasonable period, a report to staff is warranted. (We don't mind addressing the matter as long as we are not overwhelmed with these or other matters at any given point in time.
