New Strongarm

Redeem the company? Strong arm is a decent knife and made here. I would rather own it than any CS product, give Gerber a little bit of credit for having at least one decent product,
Nope. No credit to give. They’ve been on a steady decline for a long time in my opinion.

Only the books know. A distant outside look doesn't cut it. A perception as a consumer doesnt cut it either, They sell a lot more than knives. I don't buy Gerber and I don't think anyone on here can say if they make money or lose money. Ive seen Gerber in most major retailers though.
10 times the revenue of Spyderco.

This was interesting to read,

Gerber’s current design of the composition of the metal for their knives all consist of high-quality materials, each with a specific layout in mind all tailored to the needs of the consumer. In just 20 years of crafting their fine blades, Gerber saw revenues near over $100,000,000, with an increase in demand and desire. Still growing till’ this day, Gerber is one of the few American-Made only brands that can outshine a questionable economy

In my area, victorinox and gerber are the only knives/multitools sold at Target. Walmart sells a lot of Chinese made gerber, kershaw and crkt, one Chinese made spyderco, a bunch of us made buck, gerber and kershaw blades. I only buy them at the big box stores locally if on clearance. Unless I find myself without a knife in another state(as the result of flying commercial) where I head to the nearest wally world to pick up a $28 buck 110. If I needed a fixed blade in such a situation it would be either a buck119, or the gerber which is the subject of this thread. Cheap enough to be gifted before going through TSA again.

Did you mean “partly American made?” Most of their knives and multi tools, as well as other gear are made overseas!

Bdz1 has it’s place
Similar to aebl and nitro v
Makes alot if sense in a hard use stainless steel knife
Tough stuff

Would you mind posting a link for those test results in full? I am curious to see them in their entirety. There are some surprises in them, for me at least. Thanks!

Thank you! This is some really interesting info.

Thank you! This is some really interesting info.

I just added to my notes that he is using 1 inch thick sisal rope.

Cedric is getting pretty famous on YouTube for his efforts. He has 10,000 followers who hang on every steel test. He is human, and I believe that plus/minus 10 cuts for any test is abt as accurate as he is going to get. He works very hard and is honest almost to a fault, if there is such a thing. This helps me when I look at the chart if I'm thinking abt buying some particular knife based on it's steel.

Did you mean “partly American made?” Most of their knives and multi tools, as well as other gear are made overseas!
I don't follow Gerber close enough to know the answer. I just know they succeed at different things. One is getting their product into stores. They must sell or the retailers wouldn't stock them.

The bdz1 is limited edition
Better get one before it runs out !

It's really a shame because I quite like the design of the knife. Seems like an s30v version coming in around $100 would've been a better use of their effort.

The design kicks butt. If they ever manufacture it out of S35VN, I'd buy four of them and give them to family members. I did not own one in any steel so I did buy ONE in BDZ-1, but that will be it for me. I cannot stand buying garbage and only bought based on the design.

The gerber knife line is overwhelmingly manufactured in China. The quality ones, that we talk about here, and are made in the US are a tiny fraction of the knives they sell/produce.

And without seeing the experimental method, pretty much meaningless.

I think what he was referring to is Pete's "Everyday Commentary" testing site. Pete describes his testing process in his site, and has a YT channel that contains numerous reviews as well as documenting some of his individual knife tests:

At 20 dps it’s a 50% increase, at 17dps it’s performance is a 40% increase over the 420hc. Not bad, for a thick knife though! Not bad for Gerber, either. I hope they continue using this steel, and if they do I’lol get one and remember to go to 17dps!
