i'm new to carbon steel blades i.e. ranger rd-7 first and only one. i'm concerned about rust. obviously keeping blade clean and oiled but what about around the pommel. could moisture or sweat seep between handle and tang. how do i prevent this, also i see where some suggest intentionlly forming a patina on blade. will this help. if so whats the best way to do this. i know this is alot of questions but just want to care for knife properly from the beginning. thanks

I assume your Ranger is the standard black powder-coated finish. No need to worry about rust except on any unfinished surfaces, e.i. blade edge.
To care for the steel, get some mineral oil and apply a light coat to the edge. I dip a Q-Tip into the bottle of oil and run it along the edge.

I'll be ordering a Ranger myself as soon as I can figure out which size to get. :)
