Nostalgia is on my mind

Great thread! My member card when I was 15 y.o. Ordered a switchblade from them and never received. 35 years later I wanted a quality switchblade and my first knife that got into the knife world and more importantly, the community is this Beltrame! Got me into knives like I never seen comingšŸ˜†. Been loving it the few years I’ve been ā€œbackā€into it. The Kabar is the knife I would’ve loved back then cause I LOVE it now.

I lost my card years ago, but they did send my order. :) I remember my father watching me put it together and just shaking his head.

Sweet! Looks good too. Not all abused, haha. I’m sure I would have treasured it, had I received it. They did actually send it but some neighborhood kids stole the package, ripped it open and left it. I found it but pieces were all over and missing parts. Argh! The trials and tribulations of life.

All these stories inspired me to try and find my first large survival knife. I can't believe it, but I found this beauty packed away for decades. I couldn't buy this in the 80s without my dad because of my age. We go to the counter, and I say I want that knife. The guy behind the counter handed it to me and looked concerned and asked why I wanted that. My dad said, "He goes to a rough school." I smiled and I knew it would be mine. I will never forget it. My friend got one too, and we stripped the black coating and buffed the blade. I'm going to find an appropriate place to display this classic. It even has a compass. Does your CPK or Busse have that? I didn't think so 🤣

That was the best commercial ever made without question.
What a commercial! Cold chill ran down my back, heart rate increased, suddenly I want one again! Then I remembered our butter knives were sharper than my survival knife, the emergency saw didn’t cut anything other than the skin on my fingers from the keychain rings, and the emergency fishing line was just monofilament and hook. But the thought of navigating your way out of the wilderness using only the handle compass, that was cool.

Connecticut Valley Arms Bowie kit from 1977-8. It wore the lackluster block of oak(?) for ages.
Took it camping, hunting & fishing.
Couldn’t cut a danged thing with it. lol.
A couple years ago I did a proper handle and thinned the edges.
Recently gave it to a nephew who has ogled it since he was 10.

My father bought this for me when we were at the Catskill Game Farm back in the mid 1960's
It was my second one, I had another from an earlier trip that I lost.

When I visited the Game Farm with my own kids in the 1990's, the souvenir knifes were plastic.:)

That’s great!
I remember being disappointed that we couldn’t go to the Catskills Game Farm because of some thing called Woodstock. ā€œSon, you have to understand, the road is closed!ā€
I have a similar knife from the world’s fair in 1965.
I learned that you can’t sharpen aluminum on a rock.

Nostalgia, you say. I have to be careful when I travel to the Land of Let's Remember.
This Kabar is a duplicate of a knife that I bought when I was 11 years old for the princely sum of four dollars. That knife is long gone, but a good friend gave me this one, which is a perfect match to the original.

I have a similar knife, but I don't remember where it came from.
It could have come from the World's Fair in 65, I was there too, and I have a camera from the World's Fair that my aunt bought me.
