November 2024 BOTM 948 Vegetable Cleaver

I have an Elk Santoku on the way. I can't imagine the Nov cutlery BOM is better than that.

I have the BOTM Santoku and a Redwood one too.
They are the perfect size and get the most use from me.

I ordered mine within minutes of the email hitting my inbox. My wife and I went dietary vegan many years ago, so we chop millions of vegetables. She watches YouTube cooking videos of a chef that uses a veggie cleaver almost exclusively, so I am super interested in giving this one a whirl!!

This is actually a home run for me.
I hope they also make these in 420 with the redwood handles later.

The blade is 1.5” longer and almost 1/2 the weight of the 946 Cleaver?
I like the looks of it and only 400 made. Not just for vegetables almost like a meat fillet knife too.
I’m ordering one.

Every year I start a November BOTM thread hoping it will be like the bread slicer but with no serrations
The closest they have come so far is last year when they made us a Kitchen Scimitar. (Breaking Knife)
I cut a pumpkin in half with it the other day

Mine arrived today! It looks good with my initial inspection but I need to take a closer look. It is still a hefty knife! I will try and get some pics later today or tomorrow.

My 2 showed up today as well. Pleasantly surprised. "She who must be obeyed" rarely strays from her santoku digs it (much to my surprise).

No phots.. they look like the others. With ebony, I almost always buy 2 and pick the keeper with the handle we like.

Yeah. Out my four ebony kitchen knives I have, two have blonde streaks in them and two have none. Would have been nice if they matched better (all with some blonde in them ), but I know that isn't practical.

Wow, the post office had me on a roller coaster today. Yesterday, delivery was scheduled for today. Then, this morning delivery was for tomorrow (Booooo !). Then opened the mailbox today and there was a very nice surprise !

Really was looking forward to this knife, and I'm not disappointed ! Love it !

Different from the original 1st cleaver (meat) in all the right ways.

Some observations:

Handle size is thinner on the vegetable cleaver, same overall great quality as the original cleaver, when holding the original cleaver in hand at the same time as holding the vegetable cleaver, you barely notice the the vegetable cleaver it feels so light.

Mine has some nice light thin streaks of blonde. I tend to like this more than the all black. But, I do have some other knives where the all black ebony can't be beat. Isn't nature great : )

Get one while you have the chance !

Added some comparative pictures of the two cleavers. Blade shape is all about intended function for each cleaver. For the 4th picture I tried to line up the handles as best I could to show the different blade shape/size.

Another great one. The thing about these cleavers, they look so much better in person. I tried in the pictures to show how nice they are but I could not get a picture that captures the beauty.

Same, mine looks dark in the picture but has a lot of brown woven in.

It's a beauty.

Super impressed with this cleaver! I’m really pleased with the stock thickness they chose for the steel. The grind should work well for food release.
