Official DDR/HTM updates thread!

As some of you may have noticed, I haven't been around much for the last month or so -- things got really busy out here with school and other "real-life" obligations. Things have settled down now, and I'll be back on the forums regularly from here on out. There are various updates, pictures, and so forth to be passed along from Darrel, both on the HTM (mid-tech) and DDR (full custom) side of things. So I'll be making this thread the official place to post this batch of updates over the next week or so. If you guys like having this as a dedicated updates/new stuff/pictures thread, or as a dedicated place for an ongoing conversation about said new stuff, we can of course use it as such indefinitely.

For starters, the HTM AXD is now available in an all-black version with DLC-coated blade, handle, and pocket clip. Here's a pic of the handle on Darrel's workbench:

Even cooler, though, is the modified version of this new DLC AXD that Darrel is offering through the HTM Custom Shop. They take the DLC-coated AXD handles and then hand-rub the "peaks" of the machined pattern to a satin finish, creating a crazy contrast between the silver peaks and black valleys.

Really like that contrast with the DLC and satin finish, maybe one day ill get to handle an AXD...

Cool thread!! By all means keep it coming!

I wonder if it would be possible to do the same to the Gunhammer...It's 3D machined also, after all.

I don't see any technical reason why it wouldn't be possible, but I'm not sure if it'd look very good because the contours of the handle and the 3D machining pattern are different. The pattern on the HTM Gunhammer is more complex and consists almost entirely of "valleys" -- it's basically a pattern of machined cells -- so polishing the "peaks" would just yield a rather irregular-looking set of thin lines.

I am going to buy a gunhammer bowie assisted opening. I sure wished there was an od green handle to go with a black blade.

Prototype HTM Gunhammers with ETAC-textured G-10 handles! Drop Darrel a line at dralph@earthlink.net if you're interested in getting one (these two protos are the only ones available).

That looks awesome!

I wonder if they are heavier or lighter than the alum versions.

I wish we had those handles on the forum knife! Nice work there.

Edit: Anyone know if it would be possible to buy those handles and swap them onto another Gunhammer much like they swap scales on Hinderers?
