I was rummaging through an old barn auction and found this BIG Chisel ground axe. Has some chips and dings but it looked awesome! I got it for a dollar. Came home and split some wood and couldn't be happier. :D:thumbup:

The 110 and Busse are for size comparison...;)

You do realize that a broadaxe is not made to split logs, right?

That style is designed so that one can square up the sides of a log that is laying on the ground.

Very good find by the way.
Yes. It also looks as thought it has been rehandled. If it has been done properly, the handle will be bent away from the flat side. If it has not been done properly it is useless for what it was intended for. There are places that sell the proper handle and that would be a worthwhile tool in a wood workers collection.

I knew it was a broadaxe but was not sure of the actual function. I just couldn't leave it there to be bulldozed into the debris of the demolished barn. It will have a good home with me for some time. Thanks for the link and info.:D
