One edc folder for the rest of the year

Yay! I'm glad you're spreading the love for SAKs! Truly, I believe everyone should own a SAK. I gave away several Spartans and Tinkers last year for Christmas.

Alex
I just wanna see how my uncle reacts to his new SAK after not having one since he was a kid ( my dad never ended up with his childhood knives and I don't think he did either as the other two brothers seem to have had sticky fingers) he runs a small plumbing business with his sons so he should get some use out of it.
I already took an old spoon and made my dad a suspension clip for his, and would've made my uncle one as well but couldn't find another suitable spoon.

On a side note do any of you know what type of sharpener it is that Victorinox included in their gift sets ? Both of them are coming with a key chain pull through sharpener but I'm not sure if it's ceramic or carbide .

Since I've been sick for the past week the vic recruit has actually been the only knife on me, and a couple of nights I actually forgot it was in my pocket when I went to sleep. I didn't feel it in my pocket at all while I was sleeping.

Here's what I've used it for so far today

Normally splinters aren't a good thing, but I'm happy to report that the pen blade on my recruit works great for digging them out and the tweezers are definitely serviceable though not as preferred as the fine needle tip tweezers in my dads old medical bag.

The SAK tweezers also work great for removing bee stingers. I've had to do that a couple of times!

The SAK can be taken at face value and used for its intended purposes. The fun part, I think, is thinking outside the box and discovering alternate uses for the toolsets. I think we're only limited by our own imaginations! Just today I had to remove a nail from a wall at work. I found out that the can opener on my Recruit can do that with ease!

I also used my can opener today to remove a staple from the bottom of a hatchet handle that I bought ( got the splinter from said handle when shaping it )

BTW I have actually never been stung by a bee before, but if I ever do I hope I've got tweezers on me 😁

Bought another rambler for my keys, as i find that one above the classic model in function, although i could go and use just the classic with no problems. Had quite a few of those, ramblers, classics, and a minichamp, but they all went away as gifts. Now this rambler is for me alone :D
That one, with a peanut in my pocket, and a 4way sears/p38 combo in my wallet, is all i really need. (thanks Carl for the 4way, a few years ago gift)
Practically i could just carry the peanut and the wallet combo, but when i didn't have a sak on my keys anymore, it just felt like something was missing. Not anymore.
I could just carry the sak alox soldier, or pioneer, as a single pocket knife, but hey...

Long live the Rambler, Classic, Babtam, Waiter, Recruit, Executive, Cadet and minimalist SAKs alltogether

How good is that true utility fixr ? They have them at my local hardware, but the brass drivers has me a bit iffy about them.( their little coin slotted bit driver is pretty good )

My dad got his new tinker today, I attached the dangler clip I made him for it and he absolutely loves it.
I really wish I had another of these spoons as it was pretty much perfect for this.

That clip you made is very nice! Excellent work! I can see why your Dad loves it, especially with the personal touch you added. Plus, who wouldn't like to receive a SAK?

Thanks !

I think the spoon may have some sort of old baby spoon as it had a perfectly straight half round skinny handle and a weird broad tip bowl to it. I dug all through the bins of old silverware from my grandparents house and couldn't find another.
I may have found something I can make my uncle a dangler clip out if, but I have to work around the pattern that's on it.

BTW the little sharpener that came with them is very poor, and I would've thought that Victorinox would know that carbide sharpeners suck.

TBH, you're much better with the drivers on the Rambler, Squirt, Classic or Micra, or the Quattro driver (I carry it as a necklace myself very often)

That's a good idea, I'll give it some thought and maybe start on New Years Eve and see how it goes for the rest of the year ;)

Most likely it'll be the SAK Pioneer, an excellent folder and good all around tool. I use the awl quite a bit, from opening packages with the fiber tape wrap, to scoring along the back of sand paper to make a narrow strip for a sander, or scraping gunk off, it's very versatile tool on there.

This made me laugh out loud with a mouthful of jalapeño pretzel pieces! What a mess! :D:D
Your Pioneer is a great choice. I think it would definitely be in my top five if I was trying to decide what ONE knife to carry for an extended period. (But I think a Vic Electrician would also be in that top five, and I'm sure that, for me, the Electrician would beat out the Pioneer. I'd rather have the extra blade than the can opener.)

Haha, be sure to clean that up! and yes, I really love the Pioneer, I've since removed the lanyard and the 'ear' so it just drops into the pocket, with the tools on board the lanyard tended to just get in the way on that one.

I really like the looks of these alox knives, and I may have to try one at some point.
If I get one with only one blade I can compliment it with my classic so I'd get my secondary blade plus the toothpick and tweezers.
I like not having to carry anything extra, but the black or green alox is so tempting.

Been carrying the same case yellow trapper since 1992. It replaced an Old Timer stockman that I carried since 1970. Now, after saying that, I do sometimes carry an additional knife. The case is always with me though and eventually will be replaced. Maybe.

Would like to see a picture. !

Will try rishma as soon as I figure out how to post a picture. I'm used to click and drag or adding as an attachment.
