One Man, One Knife

The super thin, insanely sharp, blade of the Opinel, paired with the unusual, but more than serviceable locking ring, are strangely attractive, and initially take a bit of time to warm up to, but given time, you'll find it incredibly hard to get out of your pocket, and switch to carrying other knives, I've never felt so loyal to a knife as I have my Opinels, defending them in front of your friends is half the fun, people have given me grief over my "sissie french knife", that is until they feel the edge I keep on it, and they embarrassingly realize, that it's much sharper than anything they've ever owned. Much lighter too.

The Medium Stockman is a good choice I think, though personally I'm liking the Sodbuster a lot at the moment :)

I will be honest.
I think you have quite a variety of patterns, and considering the "general purpose" tasks that you will be facing, I think it's safe to say that each and any of your knives would be enough...so it all comes back to personal taste and emotional bond.
If I were you, and I had your knives, I would probably pick the Opinel or the SAK, or maybe the TL-29, but that's just me; I know my taste and I'm aware of my emotional tendencies when it comes to putting a knife in my pocket.
This said, once you can get over the "rotation factor" (which has nothing to do with needs, just the pleasure and fun of carrying something different every day), any of those knives will serve you well, so follow your guts. It's not really a matter of knife choice, but more a matter of "can I carry the same knife - no matter which one - without surrendering to the will to change it?"

I reckon you should go the Svord Peasant. Because itt would also be the perfect way to test and review it - it is marketed as a great all-rounder (for a 17th century Bavarian peasant) so give it a go. I recently gave mine away to a friend and I plan to buy another to replace it. Are you peasant enough to do it? ;)

alot seem to recommend the stockman, if you do go for one that has a pen blade, find them more convenient than the spey on some. a trapper would also be good, regular size or a mini trapper, both very good. two long blades very good for food prep, general tasks, and whittling. also my preference but the trapper feels better in hand cause of just two blades. sheepsfoot on some stockman to far out but could always file down the tang some to make it more comfortable.

If Carl said it: he meant you need to carry a Peanut or an Opinel and nothing else.

Heck, one time I watched Carl skin, quarter, and then butcher a whole Moose with nothing but an old Yellow Delrin Peanut. It was pretty amazing.

Interesting opinions. Much as I like the stockman, I may reconsider and go with the Opie or the svord. And here I thought I'd come to a decision :)

I love the Opinels and stockmen but they seem to be the go-to knives for so many people (admittedly with good reason). No matter what you decide I would love to read a review of how it performs (but go the Svord anyway ;) )

just saw this thread but it looks like the die is cast lol. had i seen it in time i would have suggested your opinel. or the swiss army knife. but the stockman is a good choice, too. (i have all three types lol)

Based on your inventory, I'd have to recommend the medium stockman as well. Just remember millions of people before you got by with single blade knives and you have some of those in your inventory as well. But I have to stick with my recommendation of the medium stockman because of the backup capability (in case of a damaged or dulled blade) as well as the enhanced capabilities of the various type blades in it.

Actually after my post hit the thread, I notice you have come to some sort of decision, but based on the inventory in your first post, just use what suits you for the day. No need to kick the other knives (some great choices in there) out and no real need to buy anything else.

Wow! (Jaw drops). That must have been a sight to see. Amazing stuff!

So that's what you fellers get up to at weekends is it?! :D

Change of plans, the Stockman's out the door in exchange for a peanut. Should make things a bit more interesting, as I've never handled or used a 'Nut afore.

You did tell TotalD- Mark that he now has to carry only the Stockman for the rest of the summer, yes?

;)

Woah!!!!
WHAT????

THAT WASN'T PART OF THE DEAL :p :D

I couldn't fathom only carrying one knife for an extended period of time.

This should be good.

Give it a month of watch pocket carry then, so you'll still have the RFP for whatever dag-blasted, new-fangled, waved, serrated doohickey you normally carry ;)
