OK, I've tried to do the right thing and do a search for this, with no luck. Do we have any knowledge base on good, reputable online watch dealers? Kind of a GB&Ugly of the chrono-kind?

Hi rock,
One of the more popular sites for new watches is:

http://www.ashford.com/

Prices aren't the best in the world, but they're far from the worst either. Check their specials as you can occasionally get some really good deals.

For higher end used watches there are obviously too many sites to list, but precious few that have a reputation for being 100% above board and reliable. A couple that do come to mind, however, include:

http://www.bernardwatch.com/

and:

http://www.joseph-watches.com/

Note that Gisbert Joseph is located in Spain, a fact which should only concern you to the extent that you can occasionally get hit with some import duties when making purchases out of the U.S. Hope that helps. If there are any specific brands you're interested in, let us know as we may be able to provide better info.

Thank you Bronco. I had found Ashford in particular, and was wondering about it.

Right now, the watches that I'm interested in are Citizen and Wenger, maybe Tag Heuer (but probably not), and Swiss Army (if they are even still around... I haven't been able to find the makers web site). Pretty much in that order.

Is anyone familiar with www.worldofwatches.com? They have some pretty good prices.

I'm not familiar with that site, rock, but the prices do look good.

Here's another site I've seen mentioned on the forums that features a wide selection of Citizen and Seiko watches. It may be a useful site on which to so some comparison shopping:

Go to http://www.google.com and search on “Citizen watches” “Swiss Army watches” “Wenger watches” “TAG Heuer watches” and so forth. You won’t get recommendations for the best websites but you will be able to see all the available models and prices.

Thanks guys. Since my last post, I ran across wristwatch.com, but hadn't had the chance to look through it yet. I'm going to go do that now.

While searching for information on worldofwatches, I ran across a place called www.bbbonline.com . It is supposedly an online site the equivalent of the Better Business Bureau. I couldn't find anything on either World of Watches or Ashford. I don't know if that is a good thing, a bad thing, or irrelevant. It is good to hear of yet another site that people on here have dealt with (wristwatch.com).

Thanks guys.

I purchased my Citizen EcoDrive World-Timer Titanium from WOW nearly two years ago. I recommend them highly! Great prices, quick service.

I've also used www.watchzone.com to buy my Casio G-Shock Thermometer. Also great prices, quick service.

rockspyder - There are plenty of forums to learn from. Here are a few:

http://timezone.com/ (Run by Ashford)
http://www.watchzone.net/
http://www.broadarrow.net/
http://chronocentric.com/contents/
http://www.watchforum.com/
http://www.watchnet.com/
http://www.watchuseek.com/
http://www.equationoftime.com/

I've ordered from Ashford.com before and received excellent service. Keep in mind that Ashford also has coupons to discount the already low prices - some up to 20% off. Also, many brands have the MAAP pricing, so the website won't show the lowest prices. Look near the bottom of the Ashford page for a "Click here for special offer" link. You'll automatically receive an e-mail with the lowest price (before any coupons) for that particular watch. Just be sure to uncheck the box to recive periodic "special offers" or you'll probably be spammed to death... Also, I've noticed that Ashford states that you can't combine some discounts with coupons, but when I've entered the coupon code, they've accepted it. Go to www.google.com and search for "Ashford coupons".

Um, WOW guys! As usual, a wealth of information here. Thanks a lot.

Kelly, now you've given me a lot more homework to do before buying.

Really good to hear of your good experience with WOW, Skyline.

Without doing further homework (which I will first) I am leaning pretty much toward these three: Ashford, WOW, and Watchzone. Wristwatch seems to have some excellent prices, too; unfortunately, I haven't found any personal experience with them yet, and the only "customer testimonials" I have found are through their site.

Anyway, sounds like there are plenty of options with the three above. Especially if I can track down coupons.

Thanks again guys.

Thanks Clay. Although, for me, a little late. I ordered mine from World of Watches yesterday evening.
