Only 2 knives for s.h.t.f

Probably a Swisschamp and whatever Large Sebenza I have on me that day, which I’m fine with. If I had time I’d swap the Seb for a Ratmandu or Meaner Street.

I gonna rephrase the question, if you only had 2 knives when s.h.t.f and those are your 2 knives till the break or you die, through societal collapses, whether it's you getting out of a city in the first 3 days, or goin dark in a rural environment.

Unfortunately, we've deconstructed and reconstructed this thread concept so many times that we've not only committed the construction steps to memory, we've lost the instructions.

How's that for breaking a metaphor?

Preparedness is near the center of this hobby. Knives have been with us for a long time, even if their only use in your life is to deal with stubborn snack bags. For many, a knife represents a Dumbo feather: a talisman of safety against the frustrations of a pre-wrapped life, and things that would try to "unwrap" you.

The "realistic" answers are quite boring, and depend on your location, and destination, when this sudden, largely unforseen, ender-of- civilization happens.

If I'm doing my usual stuff, my goal is going to be to get away from other people, but a knife which can be used to keep those other people away from me stands the chance of being not very useful to me if I do manage the "away from other people" part.

If encouraging other survivors to play nicely is something I want to do, then the first "knife" is going to be a machete. I'm going to back it up with a prybar and a hammer, because I've found many things that would want pried or hammered, and I don't expect that to change. If the hammer is actually a "camp hatchet", so much better.

The second knife would be something like the 110 that I mentioned earlier, or a trapper-pattern of some kind, because I don't know duck-diddly about wilderness survival, but that's what Nessmuck used.

I think.

If we're writing the script for a post-apoc survival story, then it's Zombie Tools and Busse, for the win!

But only if you want to be boring.....

Yeah daggers are good because they have 2x the edges.
2 of these

You never disappoint ;)

Itd be tough to leave so many behind, but I would have to take two that I know well and are reliable.
They would be Becker BK-9 and BK-16.

Probably a Spartan Difensa as the smaller blade, but maybe a BK18 or a Jakaaripukka.
And a larger chopping blade would be either a Teravva Skrama or my Essee kukhri (I've had to round off the handle to get rid of sharp endges). Or if knife is extened to very short swords, it would make things harder because APOC Yataghan or a TFW Ginunting.

Man.... Difensa and ginunting probably.

I won't get caught with less than four knives at any moment... But I'll play...

A 111mm SAK with a saw and either A BK7, 9, Ontario SP1,6 or 53 or Skrama 200 or Kailash Plain Jane... and so on... Too many choices, I could not decide...

USMC fighting knife and SAK Spartan.
Just curious why a usmc fighting knife? They have a fatal flaw that has been found in the tang, many activities such as moderate prying, and batoning can break tem very easly. I have them and try to shyf had tasks and keep them dry because the leather handles do rot if wet for too long.

I've used one since 1971 with no problems.

Let's hope that we never have to find out.

But my BK-2 & my Ontario machete come to mind. Along with a hammer and pry bar.
