Ontario sp10 marine raider mods

Think I will patina this one, and do rust blueing on the next one before I add the handle.

The project is finished, tho I may try to reshape swedge after some practice. The cold blue is definitely not going to work . The knife feels great. Will be an excellent heavy chopper.

That is amazing I would love to known is that something a total green horn could do or does it take a lot of experience

The guard and pommel take a lot of file work, yet I am an amateur so I think you could do it. I read posts and articles about how to make and fit a guard, and also how to fit a wood handle to a stick tang. Then stated slowly.

Cool would there be any you would say to began with I am a total beginner but the way that kaber and the sp10 are so cool I would be tempted to try. I think the kaber would be easier to Carry as a backup but the sp10 would do more damage I would guess

Would you all consider the tang on these SP blades to be strong? I haven't heard of one breaking before. I have the SP51 and it is a hell of heavy duty chopper. Just wouldn't want that tang to bust. It is 1/4" 5160 though.

Question on the SP10. I've been interested in the Ontario SP10 for years and have never pulled the trigger. I love 1/4" blades but my question is regarding the steel. I know the older versions were 1095 and I've heard (not sure if true) that Ontario switched to 1075 steel. So, if I were to get one should I search for an older 1095 version or just get a new one if it really is 1075. Just trying to find some input on Ontario's 1095 vs. 1075 and if they really did switch. Love the modification by the way because I love the SP6 and it's stabbing shape which you almost replicated. Thanks.

From what i understand, Ontario shifted to 1075 for most productions knives in a trade off for toughness over 1095s edge retention, aside from military contract models that specify 1095. it really depends, do you want it to be a little tougher or hold an edge a little longer?

That looks great!! any chance you could post a photo of the handle looking down from the top? The width always gives me trouble and I would like to see how you did it.

Pretty cool thanks for sharing. Instead of a concealed nut you could consider an acorn nut. A bit more decorative.
