Opinel to make the Néo6 with "opiflex"

Its a good idea Opinel locking is illegal in the UK even a fixed blade butter knife is a NO,NO.

Thougfh we can have a pointy blade if 3",its a knife to cover all countrys.

I don’t hate the concept — I actually think the mechanism is creative, with a spring built into the ferrule — but the blunted/rounded tip is just silly.

I disagree. I believe this is an extrapolation similar to the extrapolations folks were making when Victorinox announced its bladeless multi tools line they were going to offer. They were wrong about that and it would be wrong to jump to conclusions here, too.

Agreed. There’s no way this is meant to replace the standard design.

I don't need a company to protect me from a sharp point, ill protect me from a sharp point, forcing a blunt tip on everyone because it's "safer" is indeed silly, majorly.

The silly knife laws are a problem for the country. Making a product that has an increased market by compliance to those silly laws is a problem for Opinel.

That blunted tip is way better than the blunted tip for the kid’s number 07 knives.

If it shows up in the American market, I’ll probably buy one.

The kids opinel is more of a folding butter knife and this new knife design feels like another kid's knife because of the tip, even though it's a lot better, I use the tip of a knife a lot and sometimes you have to insert the blade into an object when cutting stubborn material, the Néo6 takes away that option, and without a locking ring it might close on you if you keep fighting it, so much for being "safe". I have ordered one anyway from oponel direct and it's already been shipped but I will take a virobloc and pointy tip over the other one any day

There is an animated diagram of the mechanism about half way down that page of the European Opinel web site. No back spring. It's cam action, with a hump on the tang of the blade acting against the ring. I don't mind the cam action instead of the locking ring, but that rounded tip is a no-go for me.

I imagine that Opinel knows its customer base well enough not to offer that illegitimate creation on their US web site. As others have noted, it was plainly developed for the EU market.

The laws in "Europe" are not the same everywhere, as the laws in "America" are not the same everywhere.

Locking may be an issue in some countries but the lack of a sharp point does not seem to be solving any major legal issue.

I do not see this as taking away people's rights etc...... It gives us another choice.

The classic non locking opinels (still available in some sizes) were just friction folders and never felt as good as a slipjont, to me.

Didn't think of it that way, I figured it didn't appear on the us website because it didn't make it's way there (yet) but the design is largely European--- and the blunted tip is way out left field

The virobloc locking ring is a high strength lock, in order for it to break or fail, the whole ring needs to bend or crack

Theoretically. I regrinded opinel tip once and the lock slam opened and the blade shut with a speed of light on my fingers.

I don’t really take that as a real fault since it’s such a light use knife but it’s definitely not without fault.
