Opinel to make the Néo6 with "opiflex"

Maybe they can split the baby and offer two versions: one blunted and one pointy.
But there's no real point [ha] in the blunted tip. It's not a requirement for the European market, they should have never blunted the tip, slipjoints make horrible and unsafe weapons. It was an extra [p-----cal] mile and in my opinion a misstep. Why not blunt no's 2-5 next?
I mean no disrespect, but I'm definitely not in agreement over it.

You ever try to get the very last bit of peanut butter out of the bottom of the jar? That's the one and only time I can think of a blunt tip being superior.
We should just start calling them peanut butter knives then. You can cut butter with a sharpie (no not the pen...)

Oh look who’s too good to run while brandishing her Opinel.

What are you talking about? I'd sharpen the ends of kindergarten scissors!

The slipjoint has a good closed strength and arc between the spring engagement points is pretty large, so the chance to accidentaly close it on your fingers is very low.
it works in between like a normal Opinel, with a bit of resistance from the wooden scales.

Pic below - just overcame the closed slipjoint:

As with all Opinels it sharpens up very nicely and shaves effortlessly.

With that said, I really don't like & understand why they chose to blunt the tip, as it s a very small and non threatening knife...

I'll use it to complement my traditional collection and when traveling.

Cheers and have a good one :)

Did you sharpen the edge or drop the point? Just wondering how the tip sits in if you just sharpen the edge..

Ever since I was a young boy, this was an incredible treat for me! 😲 🤓
I'd fix a couple of pieces of toast, put jam on them, cut each into 9-12 small rectangles. Then I'd stab a rectangle of jam toast with a fork and use it to swab out some peanut butter clinging to the sides, bottom, or side/bottom edge of the nearly empty jar. Eat the PB&J treat off the fork and repeat until toast is gone and jar is spic-and-span!

Well, I can't do anything about the tax, but for the tip I just used this: (remove material with 300 - then finish with 1000)

Then I stropped it on leather and after a very short time it was a pointy tip and a shaving sharp knife.

(I made sure that the upper and lower half of the tip converged at the longest point, in order to not lose any length)

The knife is advertised with 70mm blade length and before the work and after the work it was 71,5mm long :)

Hope this helps
They are stocked in the UK now so one is on its way to me.

Grandparents house, old original coal fire in the back room (front rooms only for weddings and funerals and the like).

Big uncut tin loaf cut into thick slabs.

Toasting fork to brown the toast, maybe a little soot as well.

Big dollops of New Zealand Anchor butter melting on the bread and dripping down your chin.

No finer, tastier food on the planet (time and place helps). 😎
