I don't know if her 'outlook' is different, but I do know that she grabbed my ear and twisted the hell out of it as she was standing behind me reading the post I'd made. Gee... I thought I had everything worked out!;) Since she seems to have taken a shine to your gentlemanly manner, Preston, I've been informed that I should let you know if you're ever in our area and want to stop in for a vist (an hour or a week), you'd be most welcomed at our home. Maggie cooks a great meal... which might be why I've gotten just about as big as a walrus in past couple of years.

Shiva Ki... back to Shiva Ki. I am impressed with the rope cutting photos on his website. I found the pic of the Dragon 'flying' rather funny, although I can certainly appreciate the athletic ability it takes to make a jump lick like that. The rope cutting, I did not find funny at all. I wonder how much of the cutting power is due to the 'man' rather than to the 'knife'. Way back in the early 80's, I made a cut of ten pieces of rope. I didn't try more because of the expense of the rope... but I'm sure I could have done a few more pieces. But that's ancient history... no pics... and all the witnesses like Don Fogg and Steve Schwarzer who actually saw me cut one thing or another back in the dark ages are senile at their advanced age.;) All I have to prove anything is an old cutting demo video that I made over a decade ago. I'm old and broken down at this point, but I do believe I'm gonna have to do some practice cutting, save up some money for rope, and give it a try. I'll bet I can still do ten... even as feeble as I am. (Please note that I'm putting together my excuses in advance:p ) If I can't, I'll have to find a 'pinch hitter, so to speak... someone younger and faster to try to make the cuts. It'll be a few months since I'm currently busy building a new shop, but I'll post some pics if I do anything worth posting.

I'm curious as to what other testing you put your knives through, Master Ki.

Mr Fikes, that push cutting thru the rope with that cleaver was very impressive in your video.Push cutting so effortlessly,WOW.That cleaver was a grand one. That would be one useful tool in the kitchen.Maybe Fogg and Shwarzer are getting old:p ,but I bet you could still swing that jungle honey or the katana as you did in the old video. My thanks to Win Heger for that video.
I have had the oppertunity to handle a Shiva Ki bowie. It has a wonderful edge to it and the construction is very good.

I do find the suggestion that Shiva Ki's conduct here on the forums could in any measure be explained by his being "new to computers" to be somewhat laughable. The threads are there and speak for themselves. Do some research and decide if you want to buy a knife from this man.

About the only useful information his various fans seem to report about his knives is that they are very sharp and somewhat rough in fit and finish. If those are the sum total of your requirements in a $4K bowie - and you are willing to take it on faith that his "samurai steel" is something really super-special, then you probably need to look no further.

For my dollar, I'll take metallurgy over mysticism every day of the week. Plus, as a rule, I don't buy knives from jerks.

Roger

PS - Welcome to the forums - this is a great place to learn about knives.

:thumbdn:
. it's also a great place to learn how"small" people can be ..

.. reading many of these posts regarding Master Shiva Ki, ( oh, yeah.. he's the 'real' thing.. )
.. it would be funny as hell,, if it were not so G.D. sad..
.. to see a whole heap of armchair 'critics'..
... rippin' a new ass for a guy they probably know little or nothing about..

.. Shiva Ki's knives are the best I've ever had in my hand, his designs are brilliant.. beautiful, effecient, and 'deadly' .. maybe some of you don't realise that knives actually *do* find use in offense/defense situations..
.. Shiva's knives are the best I have seen for integrity to the purpose..
.. Ki, is not a maker of "clunky" blades..
..all his blades are very *fast*.. the balance is beautiful..
.. fastest being the "chute-merc",,
.. Shiva made me 2 of them.. my first order, serious threats on my life , seemed to nulify any so-called 'high-price'.
.. they were a good choice. took care of business.

.. the new orleans-style "fightin'" bowie.. the finest "Bowie" I have ever *seen* let alone handled..
.. got one coming ..16" blade, & *samurai*-steel.. ( oh, yessuhhhh ! it's 'real' ).. it will be the big "Bro." to the "lil' bowie" @ 9",, and the big, "badass bowie" @ 13"..
.. and then there's the 'spirit-blade.. mine is something lovely to hold in your hand ...
.. balance is beautiful. . blade of 'sam' steel takes sharpest edge.. stays sharp for a long time..

.. and regarding 'sharp' .. blades are like razors.. 'clip' too..
. and he even told me how to do it myself...
.. pretty f......* "arrogant" of him..eh?
..

.. the MK-2 is a blade most smiths would "dream" about making... be 'able' to make.. mine is # 001.. and is 'alive' in the hand.. just "think"
about where you want it to be.. it's there..

.. if anyone is 'big' enough to want a look at it, e-mail me at crystaldogofwar@gmail.com ,, I'll be happy to send you a photo of it..
. . I only get concerned about one kind of "finish".. and it ain't the 'glitz and glitter' you-all are talkin' about...
.. knives are a lot like people..
.. it's not the "show" that matters.. it's what's 'inside' that counts..
Shiva Ki seems to put a lot of effort into that "inside" job.

.. I got 7 of 'em.. wish I had 4 times that many..

.. a jerk? - Shiva Ki a jerk??
.. when I suffered the worst personal tragedy of my life.. Shiva Ki corresponded with me almost every day.. gave me some of the most helpful 'wisdom' I have ever had.. helped pull me through..
.. some "jerk"
. . yep..
.. a lot of little, 'insecure' "boys", out there ..
.. maybe even some *real* jerks.
..
.. might see if Shiva would like to put my photo of his MK-2 on his site.. then you won't
'have' to, e-mail me. :-)

Hey, Raj

Glad you enjoyed the old video. I've gotten a lot of good feedback on that old thing.:) What depresses me, though, is that everyone keeps mentioning the 'ease of cutting' and stuff like that instead of telling me how dashing I look in my best pin-stripe overalls.:p

The cleaver. The cleaver! I should make some more of those. They're actually a lot handier in the woods than in the kitchen, although they do slice both meat and veggies pretty well. I like the cleavers for heavy duty camp work. With a good camp knife, taking down a 3 or 4 inch diameter sapling is easy enough, but that cleaver would take down a *tree* in short order. I prefer it to even a very good hatchet... and once gotten used to, it could be used to perform some fairly delicate tasks as well.

Nope... I'm too old to cut very well. I could barely make it though this bundle of dried bamboo (link is below). :D Green bamboo cuts about as easily as a celery stalk, but the dried stuff is tough indeed. Maybe with with a little practice I can up my skills to at least the 'feeble' level. Don Fogg took the photo... and the hardest thing was timing. Not timing the cut itself, but the timing of me throwing my walker far enough away to be out of the photo and then Don catching the blade going through the bamboo... all in the instant before I toppled over and rolled around on the ground groaning from one pulled muscle or another.

I've got to find someone to cut for me. Someone mean.:grumpy:

I'd like the opportunity to play with one of Shiva Ki's blades just to get the feel of it. If I weren't such a homebody myself, I'd call the man up and see if he would allow me to visit. I might just give it a try,anyway... homebody or not. Did you get the chance to cut anything with the knife? Win Heger mentioned that you had (or have) a few of my knives. If you feel like it, let me know (email would be best, rather than taking up space in the thread) how you like them... and also what you don't like. No matter how much testing I do on a knife, I always wonder if it held up for the customer the way it should. I'd appreciate any feedback, pro or con.

G.R., I'm not feeling the least bit insecure. I just don't like people that come on this forum and act like dickheads. That is exactly what Shiva Ki did.

You obviously think highly of him and his knives. You may think it stupid, but I will never get the chance to see how good one of his knives is. What he did on this forum caused me to lose respect for him totally, and I won't own a knife from a maker I don't respect. I don't care how good the knives are.

When you come to a forum the only thing thing that we have to judge you from are your actions while here. If, like Shiva Ki did, you act like a jackass, that is what people that don't have first hand experience with him are going to think he is. If he is indeed a good guy, that is not how he acted here.

I only have the money to buy so many knives. I will never be able to afford to buy from all the makers that I want to get a knife from. When a maker acts like Shiva Ki did, he makes it easy for me to remove him him as one of those I was considering.

Anyway, thanks for your input. It is always good to hear from those that have first hand experience with a maker that is being discussed. The fact that so many have had good experiences with Master Ki stands him in good stead. I would be happy to have him come back, if he so wished, and see how things go the second time around. Maybe the first time was just an aberration.

Keith,
Shiva Ki does not come across well in Cyberspace,I'm sorry you will not have the opportunity to own one of his knives, truly!
:)

After re-reading that post of yours, G.R., I have to ask, do you keep a picture of Shiva Ki by your bed?

.. nope.

.. I *do* keep a couple of my blades ( Shiva's ) handy in that location though.

.. only 'picture' by my bed is a petite brunette.. she's one hell of a lot better lookin' than Shiva..
.. got bigger tits too...
.. no contest ....:D

That's odd, why wouldn't they just e-mail the Master? Are you Shiva dealer now Doug? And six just yesterday when this thread has been going on for so long? What was so special about yesterday? Just a mystical confluence of knife desires among ancient warrior spirits?

One from Canada.... Keith - you DIDN'T!! :D

Roger,
No.I'm not a Shiva Ki dealer.I acquire them,I don't sell them.I have gifted several to our soldiers, who happen to be friends.
Don't know why 6 yesterday, perhaps,um,never mind, that would just be speculation.I sometimes recieve Emails from people concerning what we're discussing, but 6 is the most in one day.He does sell quite a lot in Canada.
