Hi my friends.

I need a quick hint from you CS experts.

How do I know, if it is a Rajah II with AUS8A or the newer BD1 steel?

Are there any differences in appearance?

Does the Package helps?

The Barcode says this: X0004VTG4T

Thanks in advance!

In my experience with the recent steel upgrades, if the blade is not marked with the bladesteel, it is the older AUS8A model.

Dont know about the rajah ,but i have a first version recon 1 in xhp and it is not marked with steel type and only the dlc coating and the sticker on the box from lynn shows the difference.

Was the aus8 version of the rajah stonewashed or bead blasted...cause the bd1 version i have is stonewashed.

I have had three AUS8 rajah II and two CTS BD1 models.
First of all the AUS 8 are bead blasted and the newer ones have a much brighter and shiny finish which I believe to be Stonewashed like the voyager line.

I can easily feel a different ease of sharpening and the steel itself feels different at the very edge.

The original Rajah 2's were bead blasted, but then they released a stonewashed version of it before the BD-1 was announced, which kept the stonewash.

Okay, so I guess there's no way to find out a 100 percent, because there are unmarked stonewashed blades of both steels available.

Thank you all very much for your support! I really appreciate it a lot!

not unless you have the original box, cause i know cold steel put stickers stating in on the boxes.

It may be possible to see a bit more shine in the CTS-BD1 version over the Aus-8A.

(This is because of more chromium.)

However, putting them to use and comparing the edge-holding is where it really will count.

Plus, I am finding that the CTS-BD1 takes a finer edge over Aus-8A too.

I have sharpened it with a DMT 8,000 diamond stone and it has responded very well so far.

(This was with a Voyager 4-inch, Clip-Point though.)

Hi G. Scott H.!
That's a nice hint!
I googled a few pics, but really didn't recognize, that there are any markings on the blade, nice one!
Thank you.

The BD1 should be marked as such, from pics I've seen.
I have a stone washed AUS-8 version, and there's no marking indicating the steel type. If you see no marking, you likely are looking at an AUS-8 model.

I have an old bead blasted. No steel identification. I should grab a BD-1. Keep one tucked away, and the other to play with.

I had the same doubt when I got my CTS-BD1 from knifecenter.

I contacted Coldsteel as my blade had no steel marking at all. They confirmed me the code the sticker in the box had, as a new CTS-BD1 model. It does indeed look different, for sure.

Hard to describe

Ask them, send them your code number and they'll tell you what model is it.

They were fast to answer, also, and very nice to talk to.
