Even though the subject matter is to no one's liking, some of AC's stuff should be showing up on the Rapid City Journal's website soon (possibly today).
He's been inside so long that a photo assignment has him chomping at the bit.

I think this is the worst fire season I can remember. Tell AC not to get stuck between a couple of fire lines. I love Deadwood and hope it survives. Thanks for link, Wal, and good to see you back in the traces.

100 years of fire suppression, 20 years of banning logging, or at least gross restrictions, and 10 years of roadless national forest...

Not my idea of a break from the office, but somebody's gotta do it. Sounds like they've been pretty lucky so far--hope the winds stay relatively low!

People are gonna be mighty shocked when the price tag for restoring typical fuel levels in forests is realistically discussed. Late intervention or the inevetable superhot monster fires are both very expensive. No fires ain't "natural", and we will be paying the price for a long time.
