I was at Wal-Mart earlier today and they had 50ft bundles of paracord for like 5-6 dollars. It was In like a reddish package and said something to the effect of "550 paracord. Military grade" If you know what I'm talking about what do you think? worth picking up?

My wal mart has nite-eyes brand in black. Did not buy any,it was 8.99 for 50 ft.

Hobby Lobby has some, forget the brand name. It is OK and I pick up some filler stuff there from time to time. A local army store carries some but it is not worth using. Seems to be a polyester material not nylon.

I've been wondering the same thing.
I usually buy my paracord at a local surplus store for $15 for 200', but they only have black, OD, OD/brown, and blaze orange.
My local Walmart had a few different colors I'd like to pick up for variety.
I almost want to cut off a little piece to see if there is 7 strands in it, but I honestly wouldn't do that.

Unless you are rigging your own chutes with 50' of Wallymart brand para, what difference does it make?

All I see that gets done here is cord wrapping, and maybe intended use to hold up a lean-to.

Does not make much difference if you are using it as cord but if you are tying lanyards and such if makes a big difference.

I would be using it for bracelets and just general cord. How would it be an issue if I used it for lanyards and such?

Some is very stretchy, some is very soft and picks as easy as panty hose material and some even the good stuff is very flat, fine for lanyards and bracelets but near impossible to use on a Monkey fist.

I'm going to pick some up tomorrow. I hope it's 7 strand. I'll report back tomorrow and let everyone know how it is

My local Wallyworld doesn't even carry it, my only option is online and I know I should go for it online but I would rather buy it from a locally owned brick and mortar store. Wait, there is a Cabela's near by (gasp) but then it was 50 yards of some hideous neon yellow stuff

You can buy it off of fleabay in large color varieties and I think some even include free shipping.

It's not good for trying to make Lanyards trust me, Some friends of mine who are in the Army reserves here in AL make paracord bracelets when they haft to go be weekend warriors, so I wanted to help them out, so I bought some of that crap from walmart, and they hated it, they couldn't wrap it like the paracord they usually use.

Like others said, the polyester stuff sucks. Frays easy, snags on everything. The Hobby Lobby stuff is USA made and seems to be the same nylon stuff I get at surplus stores and online. They usually have a wide selection of colors and patterns for $9 for 100 feet.

What section of Hobby Lobby are you guys finding the paracord?

I've been in several and never noticed it. But I did see Michael's is carrying paracord and bracelet kits now.

It's back by the leather working supplies in the store I frequent. Asking an associate will result in a blank stare, from my experience.
