paracord at Wal-Mart- Any good?

I just Google paracord, and several very good 7 strand dealers come up. I buy mine in 1000 ft spools. I am out, and need to buy some more, that stuff is almost a necessity once you start using it.

I always replace my boot laces with OD green 550 and it always outlasts my boots.

I always found that 550 (at least the old OD green) used to come untied more easily than regular laces.

I would caution to only buy the real MILSPEC stuff. If you just look for 550 or 1A cordage, there is lots of consumer-grade stuff out there passing as MILSPEC, and maybe it doesn't matter to you. It always has "military" "army contractor" or some reference to the armed forces on the packaging to fool you into thinking it's what the military uses, but what it doesn't say on the package is MIL-C-5040 Type III. In other words, it's not the real stuff, which is surprisingly hard to find. 99% of what is available is commercial grade stuff, even if it's made by a "military contractor" and even if it's got military flags and cammo patterns all over the packaging (they use two different standards: 1 for the gov't, and 1 for consumers), but you have to look on the packaging to know (see pic below). The real stuff is available to consumers, but it's only offered by a few places, and you've likely never heard of them. Surprisingly, real mil spec 550 is cheaper than the fake stuff (not really fake, just not made to the same standard as mil spec).

PM sent. I don't know all the rules about linking or mentioning retailers here, so not going to take a chance.

I can't say about the quality of the Walmart stuff...but I've had the no name junk (and the cheaper Chinese variety as well) and I've decided that Atwood gets my business from now on, it's worth it, MADE IN THE US, amazing quality, and the price is totally reasonable!

Unless you are rigging your own chutes with 50' of Wallymart brand para, what difference does it make?

All I see that gets done here is cord wrapping, and maybe intended use to hold up a lean-to.

Those seven strands are a big part of why everybody loves paracord.

Using it whole is obvious.

There are many applications for the fifty pound test lines.

The kernless two hundred pound test mantle also has its uses.

Gents, there a few dealers here on Bladeforums that carries Paracord. I know that there are others but, Going Gear and One Stop Knife shop are the first two that come to mind.
