Paramilitary 2 locking % early or late lockup (Post your PM2 lockup Pics)

The compression lock is steel on steel. I DO flick and play with my knives a lot, mostly my compression locks because they are fun. I also use them. I have some I have had for years, with no movement in the lock. Some of mine have been around 50% which has not proven to be a problem in any way.

I am an OBSESSIVE flicker!!! I literally cannot stop! As we all know the PM2 is one of the best flickers out there! Not one of my PM2s has moved at all. I've gotten them with early and not so early lock up. They're all smooth and lock up TIGHT, and none have budged at all.

My most used PM2, and very first Spyderco bought 5.5 years ago:

OT for just a second...

What steel is that PM2?

Thanks for all the replies! 👍
What bothers me is, an earlier lockup would be much easier/lighter to pinch when disengaging. Having a late lockup for a Brandnew unit takes way more pinch force to disengage, adding to the stiffness of the lockbar when New.

I actually have a Blister already on my index finger!

And at the price range of the PM2, Im one of those not so well off who considers this an expensive piece already, and would expect more if not the best unit.

Well. . .

Don't be a wussy, Wendy!
😂😉😀😉

From another thread.
Would prefer to get the one on the left most for a Brand New unit. But instead I got the one in the middle...

Trust me, get her sharp like this and you'd want your lock bar in the middle and then some...

My smurf PM2 from...was it 2012? (the first Bento Box run) is at about 40%, and I've used it constantly since I got it. This needn't be a concern, IMO.

Glad I'm not the only one! You probably already know, but the Yo2 may be even more fun to flick with its thick blade. The Sliver is going to be awesome as well with the flipper tab option!

What Joe said. I just checked both of mine and they're at about 30%. I think this whole deal about wanting early lock-up in anticipation of eventual wear is an internet-fueled popular misconception. A well-built and well-engineered knife will show little or no wear or movement at the lock-bar/tang interface after initial break-in, even after thousands of opening/closing cycles. If anything, extremely early lock-up is a dangerous trend.

As to the lock-stick thing, my Black G10, satin-bladed PM2 was a little sticky when new, but has broken in very nicely with the use it's had. My digi-camo, black-bladed knife was bought used on the Exchange and has not seen much handling. It makes an audible click when releasing the lock and takes slightly more index finger pressure to release than it's brother. It's no big deal to me and I'm sure it would break in nicely if I played with it or used and carried it more.

Yup--just go cut some stuff, dude.

Well said and thank you for saying it.

I'd love to see an example of a knife that someone actually wore the lock out from normal use.

As most everyone has said, 50 percent is fine. But you've got to be happy with the knife osorio. So if you want it at 25 percent, you should ask for that. Don't settle for something that doesn't please you or that you don't love. What works for one person, may not for another, and the only person you need to please is yourself.

I had a brown PM2 with 50 percent lockup and an asymmetrical tip. Nothing wrong with it -- just bugged me. Now I have another brown PM2 at 30 percent with a good looking point. The knife isn't objectively better, but I feel better ;-)
