Pivot screws

I haven't bought an emerson for years now. mainly due to fit and finish, blade play and thin liner locks. recently, I purchased a CQC-15 and 8 and I'm amazed with the fit and finishing and the lock was a bit ticker. the only slight blemish issue and found is that the new pivot screws are all marred up. it seems that whoever saw assembling it does not know how to properly tighten screw. upon looking some pictures on google, I guess most pivot screws are marred from the factory.

I haven't had any issues with ones that I have purchased from EKI directly and from their dealers. I have purchased ones that are 2nd hand and claimed new only to have marks or even the wrong washers in them. I have on rare occasions received the knives used for a photo shoot by their respective dealers which had marks on them from actually having been handled. Did you buy yours new from Emerson knives or one of their prestige dealers? Sometimes someone will buy one and return it saying they didn't like it but never mentioned they (person that bought the knife) took it apart and the dealer just puts it back on the to sell rack after a quick look.

Was just going to ask this very question. I'm pretty positive our technicians know how to use a screwdriver.

As long as one of the Phillips isn't stripped I wouldn't worry about it, unless having all black screws is one of your peevs. I second the second hand aspect, can't always be certain people list "everything" for full disclosure. If it was new I would check with who you bought it from

It's stripped on where the screws are marred up. it's marred up in a sense where it looks like burrs and chipped section. I got it from knifeArt.

Just fyi I've heard nothing but bad things about knife art, not saying any of them are true, but they don't appear to be in the best standing among knife guys

Some dealers will tighten the pivot before shipping for safety/regulatory reasons. That might be what happened. I've never received an Emerson direct from the factory that had the issue you describe.

I had a few Emersons with the Emerson finish but that never affected performance.
Quick fix, here.

Send us an email or call and we can send u a pivot. Is it new or old style? New style has a bigger slot. Old style is pretty thin. Sometimes people don't use the correct size flat head on the older style pivots and then they slip and strip out the head.

Hows that for service. OP I would get a new style one as you can make adjustments using a dime or any flat head rather then a specialized thin flat head

Post pics please.

Yep, I would also like to see pictures. I usually only buy a preowned knife if I am satisfied with the pictures provided and full disclosure is made. I addition, not once have I ever received an Emerson knife with a jacked up pivot screw, or body screws. The 15 I bought new had a bit of red loctite that went into the area of the washers, but I cleaned it up fairly easy.

You know, I got to thinking about what he's talking about. This is what I suspect he thinks is marred, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yup. Imagine that middle "notch" in the middle and the corners are marred up.

I've been trying to post pictures but since I've downloaded IOS 8 it's isnt working right.

That middle notch is normal, at least my two newest Emersons (a 2013 and a 2014) both have them.

I use a Sharpie to touch up pivot screws if needed after disassembly and cleaning, no biggie. Any marks are really small.

Alright. What do you know of Occam's razor? Usually the simplest or easiest answer is the correct one.

Now let's take that and apply it to what you think is a marred pivot screw. Emerson has skilled labor assembling the knives. They have the proper tools to assemble the knives and they are also knowledgeable about the product they are working on. Do you honestly think all of his workers mess up the pivot screw on every single knife that leaves the factory?
