Photos Pocket Fixed Blades

This little gem came in yesterday. 14C28N steel,3" blade,G10 handle, kydex sheath with a large tech-lock. All for the low low price of $20! lol I never thought at this point in my collecting that I could find something I liked for so little cost.

That's really nice. I wish there were more leather pocket sheaths available for pocket fixies.

This Civivi Midwatch came in today. This is actually my first finger hole knife. I had a fox karambit years ago, but it was a folder. This is a nice, comfortable fixed blade with a 3.39" blade of N690 steel & a burlap micarta handle. Looks like I didn't wipe it down well enough before taking pics. There's still some oil on it.

I have never quite gotten the concept of a pocketable fixed blade knife. . . .but I was born in 1950 so that may just be a Boomer based bias. My urban EDC is a Leatherman Wave in a horizontal belt pouch.

If the task can be done with a blade that small (under 3 inches?) why is a folder out of the question? I would have uro-genatle anxiety with a fixed blade in my pocket . . .however stout the sheath. Perhaps if I were wearing a suit oat, a more substantial knife could be carried in the inside pocket if the sheath was a custom one-off.

Would a CRK Backpacker fit into the In-Pocket Fixed Blade category? Or is that too long?

I pocket carry the Backpacker. Am doing so right now

How does that work? Back pocket , Front pocket . .does the handle stick out visibly? Can you sit comfortably in a car?

Not challenging you, just asking how you do it and how it works for you.

Great . . .I do want one for Christmas!

I guess you find it OK for walking around, driving and so on . . .I mostly stay at home or city travel via Cab, Uber or Metro Bus.

Urban, sub-urban, rural . . .working . . .what is your Monday through Friday like with regards to the covert EDC of a four inch fixed blade knife? A parallel question is why not openly belt carry?

In a prvious post I noted that my EDC is a multi tool.
While Texas is an open carry state, some-to-many businesses are not. I can't leave stuff locked up in my trunk, so deep pocket carry or a innocuous belt pouch gets me by.

Do not misunderstand: If this works for you, then by all means carry on (yeah, it is a pun).

I’m in urban area. Hardly ever in the country. I think I “conceal” the longer blade because I’m used to conceal carry more than anything. I used to carry a pistol almost religiously but haven’t for awhile. Don’t even know why I stopped.
I don’t like for everyone to know I have the longer blade so I rarely pull it out to use if anyone else is around.

Thank you for that sharing.

If it works for you then that is what it is.

Six years ago, pre-pandemic, I was waiting for the light to walk across a city streety in Houston . Never had a worry in that part of town and I tried to avoid places where I would worry. At the time,I was legally blind and used a white cane to help out with curbs, steps and ssuch. I do see better now, but not well enough to drive.

The light changed (I could tell by the traffic noise) and I stepped off the curb. This guy comes up on my really blind side and grabs my arm while shouting in my ear. I declined but he jammed my elbow and forearm (holding the blind cane) into my ribs. I raised my voice and told him to let go. He didn't and kept shouting something in my ear. My God, I thought, I am being mugged in broad daylight in front of a line of cars.

I finally yelled really loud, said a number of bad words and gave as violent a shake as I could, despite arthritic hips. And as I did that, my right hand was pulling out my multitool from its belt pouch. I can often manage to thumb open a blade on handed (but not reliably). The guy let me go and ran off. I crossed the four lanes of stopped traffic and made the opposite curbh.

I looked back and he was gone, leaving a squeege in a bucket. He just wanted to help me cross the street. Putting the Leatherman away I found that the straight pointy blade and the sheep's foot serrated blade were both open and locked. This scared the $h!t outa me. I had nearly cut him, and all he wanted to do was help me out. This could have been ruled assault or even manslaughter if the aftermath had gone sideways.

I see better now, but have had both hips replaced and don't get out much by myself any more. I now carry pepper spray on my belt as a less lethal first grab option. . . .but the Leatherman is still there and I am better at getting the blades open.

The original was called Stubby Chunky Tanto Monkey. And this blank was designed so I could make him an even smaller one than his original. In fact here is the modified blank for his order, at right around 5.5”:
