Pocket Sheaths or Belt Sheaths

Just curious how many you guys use them ? I must admit KSF video on their pocket sheath was convincing to me and once grabbed one completely changed my daily pocket knife carry, way good idea.

Have some nice DM Bullard sheaths too for belt where with the smaller 3'inch knives can ever pull that off in business clothes although kinda in texas if ya got boots on the leather knife sheath on the belt just works.

I'm a big fan of pocket sheaths. I don't mind the extra time it takes to deploy my knives. They ride so much better in the pocket whether I'm wearing a suit at work or jeans on the weekends.

The KSF Mainstreet pocket sheath works real well for me. If I'm also carrying a small fixed blade, I'll swap the Mainstreet for a Pocono. A while ago Primble gifted me on of Barry's TC pocket slips, and it also works well.

I've started carrying my bigger knives in pocket sheaths instead of loose in the pocket. I've found that it helps to keep them in place in my work khakis. The only time I like a belt sheath for a folder is if I'm fishing so i can get to my knife without having to keep standing to fish it out of my pocket. I have a leather pouch sheath that fits my trappers that I wear then.

Always carry my traditionals in a simple pocket sheath. Bought this one from a maker on this forum. Can't remember who it was. Anyway, it protects the knife and my phone at the same time.

I never use a pocket sheath,I have a need to feel the scales like a worry stone,I have a belt sheath on me six days a week I work electrical construction and need to be ready for emergency calls..

The only time I use one is when I carry a fixed blade, which is often. I would like a horizontal belt sheath for my 73.

I was actually gifted a KSF pocket sheath, and it totally changed my attitude regarding sheaths for folding knives. I've never liked carrying a folder on my belt, and I don't like having a knife floating around in my pockets. The pocket sheath handles that. I might not be able to deploy my Barlow like it was an Emerson, but that was never the point. The pocket sheath actually makes it quicker to hand for me, and it protects the knife and other objects in my pocket.

I generally always carry my knife in a pocket sheath. Doesn't mean it gets babied or doesn't see use but I'd rather not have the pocket lint, dust, coins, phone, etc bang up against the knife itself.

When I bought a 77 Barlow in early 2015 I bought one of the Tuscany slips from CK that fit it and now use with my 73 . One of these best buys that I ever made. No worries about scratches on the knife while it is in my pocket.

I like belt sheaths. The only knife I have a pocket sheath for (so far) is a Opinel No.8. I'd prefer a belt sheath for it though. Seems the knife on the belt is just more handy/easier to get to.
Of course that does not stop me from reaching into my pocket for a slip joint, when the lock back on the belt would be over kill for the job at hand; for instance, cutting the saran wrap off a pallet (or pallets) of boxes.

I have a KSF pocket sheath, its great but I do have some issues with pocket sheaths in general.
-They tend to flip around in my pocket and lay horizontally
-Sweat (which happens absurdly often this time of year in OK) gets the leather wet and in turn rusts your knife which I absolutely hate.
-It is slow to get the sheath out, shake the knife into your hand, set the sheath down to use your knife then put it all back away, its a whole thing. I end up just using whatever modern one hander I have in my pocket most of the time.
So because of these reasons im going to explore an open top belt sheath molded to fit my large stockmans snugly and maybe that will be the last word on sheaths for me. I do still like pocket sheaths though, its a great option. Aside from moisture issues I think a pocket sheath is the best for protecting your knife from carry damage.

I have several pocket sheaths, which were gifted to me by friends, and so they mean a lot :) I occasionally use a belt sheath for a large folder

Hate a knife sideways in my pocket, sheath or not. I've cobbled together ugly but efficient pocket sheath rigs for work. I recently found one of these locally and will be trying it. I also found it online and it has at least two sizes. It fits my requirements of holding the knife upright clipped in the pocket and is pretty inexpensive.

I had to put a couple stitches in the bottom. It is open for some unfathomable reason although it does taper a bit. I am going to also fit it to a knife and stiffen it up with some beeswax. I want to slip the knife in and out fairly easily while leaving it clipped in my pocket.

Nicely done!

Clipped sheaths that ride at the top of a pocket get in my way, so I solved the sideways thing in a different manner, inspired by r8shell's gift to me (the pocket sheath at left) and materials on hand.

I threaded leather through the back of my GEC (much-thinner-than-your) pocket sheath...

... and now attach it either to a belt or directly to a belt loop. This keeps the sheath-enclosed knife upright in my pocket while not riding at the top, easily retrievable by the leather strap.

This is working really well for me. :)

Nice mod, P.

I usually only use a slip if I'm carrying more that one knife in the same pocket, so they don't bang against each other. I never use a belt sheath, as I don't want to add any more bulk around my middle. :D

I like the KSF as its broadly designed enough can get different stuff in it

Here can get my Maratac light, a case Eisenhower, and actual found the old school skillcraft government pens suit well EDC and does not stick up, a fisher bullet would stow completely

Or alternately a# 15 and an autopoint pencil which is my new fav for EDC pencils cause they are durable light and cheap

I once had this type clip and really liked it; although you had to watch the sizing or the knife would fall through it. So, good idea stitching it. Gets the slipjoint out of the bottom of the pocket, especially for those too large to lay right. I was thinking of this particular one and solving the same problem when I contracted my latest clip-slip; but haven't gotten them in hand yet. I also wanted to make it a little versatile so it could be a belt or boot clip as well.

Coolness, send me a PM with details if you feel like it.

I used to use a side sheath made by Case on my belt. Last year, I discovered the pocket slips made by various members here on BF. Barry made this one for me and I use it all the time. I also carry my iPhone in a leather slip and the two slips are usually in the same pocket, in the summer. I like the protection they offer and I don't like getting my stuff all dinged up by coins and keys. I don't find it a burden to have to remove either from the leather. When I go back to long britches in cooler weather, I usually just put the knife in my watch pocket.

I have a great eastern slip, two Tuscany slips. All the Northwoods knives come with a slip. And I have a KSF pocket sheath for my Lon Humphrey's
Whitetail. The Tuscany slips are the best for pockets with other stuff in them, like wallets. And I have a Case horizontal belt sheath that my CSC Pinch fits perfectly.
