is that scabbard stacked wood rings?

no the shirasaya has simple string wrapped bindings to facilitate disassembly for periodic cleaning.
A regular saya cannot be taken apart.

How tall are you Danny? Beautiful sword!

Wow that looks great. Great find. Would you mind if you get a cahnce giving the other stats for it. Width at bolster and tip, thickness, weight etc. I have a great love of swords and would like to know more about that beauty. Thanks

That is one formidable hunk o' steel!  Congratulations! :)

Blade is 4 cm wide at habaki, spine at same location is 9 mm thick
the blade weighs about 3 pounds altogether.

Danny,

That sword looks marvelous. I hope you enjoy it.

But I thought ninja's used ninja swords?

there are three kinds of ninja swords.
a short bladed type, a regular katana, and a long bladed type.
this is the long bladed type, obviously.
i dont have the other two.
the real difference in ninjutsu is not the size of the sword, but the way it is employed.
we dont rely on the swords' ability to cut.
see ?
then if it does cut well, thats just icing on the cake.
Dudes, if i were there with you now, id say "im buying!"

Congratulations, Danny. She's a beautiful teenager.

If you read sci-fi/fantasy at all, I recommend 'Hunters of the Red Moon', by Marion Zimmer Bradley. A star-faring race kidnaps beings from all over the galaxy to be used as prey in a hunt. One of the prey is human and uses a sword very like that. Some good descriptions of action with one. (Disclaimer: it's been a long time since I've read it, and it may that the character's discipline doesn't match yours at all. Good book in any case).

In anglish 186 is how tall? I'm confused....cm in one sentence, pounds in the next...dang, that's a nice big sword. WHoever said it was right...you could use that on a horse!

I'm 183cm if that helps...but probably not as hefty as Danny....:D

Lookin' good.

When you come back to the states
you can be the official neighborhood melon slicer.

:D
