On survivorman, if you mix p.m with glycerine and hippo dung it will start a fire.

Not in the cold. The glycerine turns into a little ball and won't absorb into the Pot-Perm at around 40 F. There are other things such as Antifreeze for you car that will work when the temps are low.
Also- the dung has nothing to do with the reaction. It was just the tinder/kindling Les was using.

Potassim permanganate is KMN04. Look it up.
It is an oxidant in the same......errrrr. similar family with H202
- Hydrogen peroxide, and Chlorine.

Don't even think about treating " camp water" with it.
It will destroy any bacteria in your gut. It will hurt you.
It is fine for a cut or rash when used as a paste. If it get's in your eyes you are.......you know. Starts with an F.

It is a commonly used sterilizer and parasite killer in the fish farming industry and used at 3-4 or so PPM to kill parasites in the water and on the fish.I've used it at 10 PPM but only for an hour. It'll destroy a fish if done too strong, for too long.
It can also be used to neutralize anaerobic bacteria in a large body of water. It DOES NOT render it "potable".

Please. Find something else for your kit.

Toucan, who said anything about using it's to treat camp water? If you're referring to my statement about water treatment that was about well water systems. I usually buy mine from Culligan Well Treatments Inc. But home depo is cheaper if I don't need much.
