Prevelance of the reliable ol' Buck 110

7-2-99-915PM EDT On the subject of the 110, what are your opinions of the auto conversion 110. Dealer had three of them at the Greencastle knife show . he got $100.00 apiece for them. I heard from a good source he only paid around $35.00 each for them. But that price looked good ,but I didnt buy one. May want one though. Are they any good?

Longden,

Wait and get a BladeForums Buck 110, I think they will be having a run of them in BG-42 blade steel.

Groan...my 110MS is already in the mail.

Oh well, I'll have one for each hand when the BF version hits the streets.

I may grab one just for the historical value of them. I like the comparison to the Colt 1911. Plus I'm not afraid to beat a 110 around.

one in bg-42? hurm...

Actually I think I like the auto version better!

Snickersnee Thanks for posting the info on a "speed opening" for the Buck 110.I recently bought the fingergroove titanium version. It feels good in the hand and comes from the factory super sharp. The action on my knife is really tight.I put one of those "allen screw" thumbstuds but it is not much faster.I will have to practice your suggested opening.I guess I am spoiled by the smooth opening of my Benchmade Axis.

Lockbacks tend to stay closed with a little more gusto than liners and such, I think this is a good thing. The Titanium is a little tight even for a lockback, but as you break it in it gets a lot easier. The best way to break it in is to open and close it a lot. This works out pretty good, since by the time you've gotten it broken in, you've got in a lot of practice opening it.

Yeah, you also have to get used to the feel of a new knife(if you used the old one a lot), it's like getting a new haircut, jsut doesn't feel right till you've had it a while. When I traded up to the Titanium from the Ranger I was packing, it took a good while to get adjusted to the longer, lighter, and thinner knife. That that I'm used to it, it feels pretty good.

I just wanted to say thanks to Snickersnee and the others for the much needed reality check wrt the 110. I have one bought in the late 70s (say ~1978). I was about 17 and it was the first 'real' knife I ever bought. I was getting caught up with the glitz of the fancy knives shown on the magazine covers and was dismissing the 110 as 'old, heavy, outdated'. I was wrong.

I am still going to get a Delica as I can't wear a sheath knive at work (I'm an engineer and the 'educated' sheeple in the office would freak, don't even mention the G word) and the 110 is too long by WA law for pocket (concealed) carry.

The only bad thing about my 110 is that I've messed up the blade with my attempts at sharpening (have a Lansky kit but it doesn't prevent user error). Guess I will have to buy another 'just to have'. Hard decision between the Ti or the regular model.

Thanks for the tips on a fast opening method for the 110, I have to go practice now.

Thanks again for the much needed face slap.

So, now there is a BladeForums 110 coming out in BG-42? Just what I needed to hear.

I just wish I could get into the KnifeCenter. The server I'm on must not have its address, because it keeps coming up "no DNS entry". Although, looking at the KC would, at most, only get me in trouble. I CAN'T afford anymore knives right now!

In the `60`s every belt that you saw, including mine, had a Buck pouch on it.They sold a bunch.

Outlaw_Dogboy: I ordered my 110MS (Master Series with BG-42) from KnifeCenter when I posted on July 3, and KCI has since told me that the item is now unavailable (darn)... and the website shows that now (but didn't when I ordered it... I must've just missed the last one).

If you find one, let me know... KCI was selling them for about $75 before they ran out. I may still just opt for the Ti version (non BG-42)... even a local shop has the old brass version on sale for $30.

Longden,

I just bought my 110MS from a big outdoor supply store in Canada called LeBaron, they also do alot of mail order stuff.

It is a really nice knife, love the BG-42 in the blade. The steel has been the only thing keeping me from buying Buck.

They are really big up here, they have big stores all over the place. Their Web address is www.lebaron.ca

You won't find it on their site, but it is in their catalogue and they do sell it. (Their site doesn't have nearly all of the stuff they have in their catalogue) It sells for $95.00 cdn dolars which is only like $65.00 US dollars.

They have a number at their site, so I'm sure you could make your order over the phone too.

In case your interested.

SharpCdn: Thanks for the tip. I'll try to followup on it when my budget permits (hopefully they'll still have some by then).
