Queen Cutlery

No.51 not very common pattern.

Pity about that one as it's a beautiful pattern. I agree with you about Queen offering all sorts of knives and the 'innovation' of D2 steel on pocket-knives, not generally available from competitors' I feel that the D2 range was one of the finest you could get and easily rivals GEC's current stuff- especially as it's all mono carbon, no stainless or D2 really...It's true that D2 knives often appeared blunt- I suspect Queen's aged machinery was not up to edging the stuff?? But I've only ever had a simple DMT aligner diamond set and it edges these Queens really well and with little effort.

Thanks, Will

I suspect the person at Queen who knew how to sharpen a knife died of frustration while trying to teach his replacement, and that was before they went to D2.

I had and traded away a #92 CSB D2 fixed blade, a S&M F&W Worm Groove Mountain Man ATS34, a purple bone English jack (can't recall #), a yellow delrin jumbo coke bottle folding hunter (forgotten model again) and memory says none of them came very sharp. The English jack had a burr on the secondary blade that rode the liner digging a groove in the brass, making it gritty opening and closing.

There was a knife shop, which is now gone too, around twenty miles from where I live that had quite a few Queen, Schatt & Morgan and Queen made Robeson knives (along with many other brands). I spent too much money there but I miss being able to go in and ogle all the beautiful knives.

I just recently acquired my first two Queen knives. The first was a 23 spear bladed Barlow, old enough to have bone scales. It is very nice but does have a little wobble to both blades, I’m guessing due to the aluminum frame stretching over time.

I liked it so much I grabbed a newer 23 clip blade Barlow of newer construction but still “old” but in great shape. I had planned to give it to my son for his birthday last week but even after flushing and oiling the pull on both blades is very heavy. I don’t mind as I prefer the bear trap snap like my GEC 23s but there’s no way an 8 year old could handle it safely.

I sure wish I’d have been aware of Queen prior to their going under. I would have liked to had the opportunity to buy some back in the good old days.

Stuart, same here, glad to see you back on the forum. I had feared something had happened and I’m glad that’s not the case!!

Thanks, Jim. I am slow;y settling in to the lively pace of the Porch. Things did happen - we lost Ron (HalfStop) right after he and I enjoyed a couple more lumches, the pandemic ensued, and my wife of 43 years passed in Summer of 2022 (not of COVID). I got a little distracted. Wheels are back on the track and I hope to post more (apologies for any repeated pictures), though will be gone part of next week for pheasant opener in South Dakota. Gotta find my bird knife.

Stuart, very sorry to hear about your wife. I hope you have a terrific hunt and flush hundreds of birds. If you can’t find your bird knife I may have a spare or three lying around here…

Stuart, so sorry to hear about your wife. Best of luck on your Pheasant hunt 👍

@GPO not sure, it's a bit ambiguous ;) the Forum Knife had Michigan tang stamps but it's pretty obvious the origin, the then owner was rather cagey about things. I think Queen kept on making a model or two for KSF but they soon switched to GEC- the rising star and it was around the time Queen started to put out some less than enviable knives under the Daniels hand....
