Question about knife storage

I have an unused factory stainless knife, Delrin handle material, in the original box, still in the plastic wrapper, and I just want to keep it stored for long term. Is it ok to keep it that way?
Also, I have some used and occasionally handled knives in Sack Ups. I have touched some of them up with Semmichrome polish, because I read that it leaves a protective film. I also read somewhere that mineral oil was good to wipe on all knives.
What do you think?

I have had a knife rust if not treated with some kind of protectant oil after using Simichrome polish. I use either Remoil or Break Free. Break Free leaves a more glossy appearance but may protect better in extreme situations. The steel I had was 1095. I do not know about meneral oil as a protectrant, I'd like to know if it will work also.
