Random Thought Thread

Everyone seems to be freaked out about AI. I do not get it. Musk and Wozniak are technicallly smart and gozillionaires, but they seem dumb to me in all this grave concern about AI. It reminds me of when Bill Gates called the Internet a fad back in the mid 90s. If you want some laughs, go back and read "Future Shock" or even "An Inconvenient Truth." The only person I know who ever consistently successfullly predicted the future was Biff Tannen.

Are you afraid of AI? Can anyone articulate a specific fear about some horror show that AI is supposed to cause?

Do some thought experiments and extrapolations

Let's say that artificial intelligence makes the use of a lawyer unnecessary. You can just ask the artificial intelligence what your options are and to analyze the law and to tell you your best legal defense and arguments with a perfect understanding of the law and legal history.

Of course the person on the other side of a legal conflict would be doing the same thing. So I guess the two artificial intelligences could just hash it out?

What if they are the same artificial intelligence?

Of course there is also the random and unpredictable nature of a particular judge and a particular jury. That could be improved with a more consistent and objective artificial intelligence as well.

For that matter, why do we need a legal system. The artificial intelligence should be able to determine right and wrong and what should be done with people

That artificial intelligence should rule the world.

Where is this all going?

I recall reading an account of people discussing the use of excavators in the construction of the Panama canal.

The argument was that the use of the machines would put a lot of people out of work. People that were digging the canal with shovels.

Someone pointed out the absurdity of this argument by stating that the best thing to do would be to take away the shovels and have them dig it with spoons.

The future is coming and improvements in productivity are, overall, a good thing. But change of such a dramatic nature frequently make some people rich and other people poor.

The rate of change in recent human history is staggering and has probably outpaced our ability to comfortably evolve.

We live in interesting times.
Clearly we now have too many people on the planet for all to be well fed, and mentally and emotionally enriched by their contribution to society.

if you've seen what AI is capable of you could come to the conclusion, and many have, that nothing seen on a screen is real anymore. it could all be AI generated.

This realization could easily fuel the problem reaction solution of
''nothing we see on the internet can be trusted''

''oh that's bad what can we do?''

''digital internet identification to be able to confirm the source of internet things and if they are indeed generated by AI or a natural human''

I can see this being not very private. Say the wrongthink and your refrigerator connected to your online account wont open as punishment.

maybe maybe not. feels like a possibility but maybe not too idk.

Random thought....

In all honesty... I think drinking beer with a person leads to that true person ...I kind of think of it like an ancient link

How many kings ,warrior's ... workers... basic people in history have shared an adult beverage with some one.... and during that time have thought "this guy's cool" or "never again" lol

Maybe I'm just looking for a reason to drink more beer with different people......

Meh lol
