Nothing particularly special about this steel, it just makes life easier if you dont let it get too blunt before touching up/sharpening as it is rather wear resistant.
Depends on the heat treatment. If D2 is done to its optimum, diamonds are your friend.
D2 peaks in impact toughness at 60 HRC. If it is not tempered right, you might as well use a lesser steel, because you won't get the maximum out of the blade.
