Saddleback Leather: Wallets

Just got a SB small wallet in Tobacco Brown. I've been embarrassing my wife by having a rubber band around license, CCW and CCs, I'll see how this works out, I only wear cargo type pants and shorts so bulk shouldn't be an issue.

How do these wallets compare to the Filson wallets? I'm looking for a larger tri-fold wallet FWIW. THANKS!

And here's some pictures of the Bi-fold Medium Wallet in Dark Coffee Brown. Not the best pictures but I was trying to handle it as little as possible as it is a birthday gift for my son.

My favorite pic which shows how the leather of my wallet (right) is already taking on some character as it wears in.

Another well-made beauty but I wouldn't trade my Large Bi-fold for it.

Nice patina forming on your wallet. How long have you had it for?

Not long at all. Maybe a month. But I carry it in my front pocket so it probably picks up a little more oils from my hand than if I just stuck it in my back pocket and left it there.

(OK, OK, I also take it out and caress it every now and then. ;))

Been rocking my wallet for a couple days now. Great piece. Its like a pair of boots though. You need to break it in. Im totally satisfied with this wallet, the quality is top notch.

I'm having a hard time deciding between the medium and the small. I'd usually opt for a bi-fold but I've been using a thin ALL-ETT wallet for a while now and my ass has become used to it. I don't know if I could go back to sitting on a thick leather wallet all day.

Can anyone comment on how thick the medium is in your back pocket? Are you very aware that it's there?

It's not tiny that's for sure. However after a few months I've completely forgotten about it, front pocket or back. And I like it a lot more then my All-Ett wallet which always felt cheap by comparison. It worked fine, but when you're trying to push bills in, or dig stuff out, it flopped all over the place.

Good to know, and thanks for the input!

Here is a pair of pictures of my medium.

It's a bit thinner then it looks in that last picture, and it compresses well.

...............

I added the drawing to your pic. What is this dimension please?
The saddleback leather lists it as 5 1/8" but I do not think so, as judged by this picture:

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/e851f5262c.jpg

as US passport is 5" high. Seems like the wallet is really just a tiny bit above 4 1/2". Can you please measure it?

Too bad the description on the saddleback webpage is inaccurate... :(

Thanks.

Gress, I converted your second picture to a link because it was pushing text off the end of the screen.

I have my SBL large bifold here and I just measured it. 5.0 x 4.0625 x 0.5". I suspect they are all close to the same measurement, but being handmade in Old Mexico, they will vary. :)

Perhaps something like this would interest you: http://www.leathergoodsconnection.com/calwal.html toward the bottom of the page.

#10 Passport Case.

$49.75
This Passport Case has four card pockets on each side with two larger center opening pockets that completely cover a passport. Click on the underlined link above for another view. This case will also hold a 5" x 3" spiral notebook (I got the one shown from Walmart). Case measures 4-1/2" x 5-7/8" closed. It fits in my jeans back pocket and my inside jacket pocket.

Or below that:

12 Hipster Passport Wallet.

$80.00
This Hipster wallet is the Passport Case shown above as a wallet. A special feature of the large rear section is a divider pocket at the top for holding U.S. currency. Measures 4-1/2" x 5-7/8" closed and fits completely in rear pocket of my jeans. Shown in foreground is this passport wallet in the brown shrunken grain leather. The wallets in the rear are Dark Brown, Brown, and Black buffalo calf. This wallet is also available on the Trucker Wallet page with security chain attached.

(I haven't got either of them myself.)

I've had my dark coffee brown medium bifold for about 2 weeks now. It's still breaking in, I have to say they come fairly stiff.

This is an extremely well built wallet though, I can see why they warranty them forever.

When you first get yours, you will want to oil it, but don't. Their FAQ tells you not to oil it for 12 months.

Nice Strider.

Thank you Esav. I appreciate your link and the products listed there.
It's just pity IMO that saddleback does not make the passport wallet with same great features (4 card slots, two internal pockets, cash pocket with a flop) like the large has. If it was just a 1/4 or so taller it would allow for the passport. The should've done better job posting dimensions on the website to avoid confusion too :D

Anyway, for now I just have to stick to my medium bi-fold and a cheap passport neck pouch like that (works well BTW)
