Several demonstrations took place outside, including forging damask, polishing the blades and a mobile knife sharpener in a van. Unfortunately I neglected to take photos...

But I took some pictures of visitors getting an introduction into ax and knife throwing. Even the local “Gendarmerie” got involved!

MC Thiers, the former "Maison des Couteliers Thiers", now "Atelier du Musée de la Coutellerie Thiers", not just one, but THE training workshop for knife makers in France.

MC Thiers had a few knives for sale, unfortunately almost everything was gone by the time I found the time to take photos. Benjamin Girard and Paul Gest, the two young masters of MC Thiers, offered two days of very interesting demonstrations on engraving with chisels.

Paul Gest recording the motifs. The surface of the metal plate is covered with a thin layer of plasticine, onto which the motifs are then drawn with a lead pencil.

Benjamin Girard making engravings. The vice is mounted on a round wooden plate, which is connected by a mounted axle to a second wooden plate, which is at foot height. This allows the engraver to rotate the workpiece around its own axis while working.

The pictures of the knives that had been introduced into the cutlery contest. I didn't find the time to take decent pics of the knives myself, but fortunately my friend Pierre Dupré took first class photos in a Lightbox and he graciously gave me permission to show them here! Thank you very much Pierrot!!!!
