Sealing Wax?

My new GH Panawal model has a piece of what appears to be sealing wax affixed to the handle. It has what I assume is some Nepali characters (writing) stamped into it.
Does anyone know what the significance of this is. Is it some sort of a "none genuine without this seal" sort of thing?

I believe it is a Nepalese customs stamp.There is a thread about it somewhere on the HI forum.

Ghost Six and Marc are correct - it is a customs stamp. Now, for the silly part - not all of them come with the stamp (but most do). The only explanation that I can discern is as follows: the customs agent opens a box, looks at all of the khukuris in the box, shruggs his shoulders, and does what comes naturally : he stamps the top ones, makes sure there is no contraband inside the box, and then sends it along.
