I'm looking to get a new watch and would appreciate your opinions. I'm considering a Wenger or Seiko. There seems to be alot of Seiko fans on the forums. Which one would you get? I'd like to keep it under $150.00.

Thanks for your input.

It depends upon what you like.

Are you looking for a traditional analog style or a modern digital style?

If traditional, do you like a watch that shows the date? Date and day? Month, date, and day?

Do you need a chronograph or an elasped-time-bezel?

Do you want a mechanical watch? Battery quartz? Kinetic quartz?

Will it be worn with suit and tie or jeans and t-shirt?

Will it get wet alot?

Do you like a heavy watch or a light-weight watch?

Flashy or subdued?

What color dial?

Seiko. Period. From Chronograph.com.

I'm sorry, I prefer Wenger's scissors to the Vic ones; but just like I won't buy a Smith and Wesson unless it goes bang, I won't buy a Wenger unless it comes with a knife blade in it.

Another vote for Seiko (or G-Shock, if you want to go digital :D )

I've had a Seiko diver for the past few years and it's been really good.

Do yourself a favor and buy either a Seiko 007 or Black/Orange Monster. Both can be had for under 150 bucks if you look hard enough. I have both (my 007 is a Yao conversion) and they are both solid watches. The Wegner watches aren't bad but the bracelets are really sub par and although the movements are ETA, the overall quality just isn't there.

I've been wearing the same quartz Seiko watch daily for 21 years. It was a gift from my wife (then fiance). It has only required a few battery changes in the past 2+ decades.

When she gave me the watch, I had been wearing a stainless steel Seiko self-winding (now called automatic) watch since the early 1970s. The self-winding Seiko sat in my drawer for the next 21 years and it still works OK.

Seiko 007 or any of its variants with 7S26 movement. They are honest hard working watches with the classic dive type look/ function.

Wengers SUCK..I had one with the crappiest movement I've ever seen in my life. Cost $200 too and the bracelet was extremely flimsy

I own both Seiko and Wenger watches. Wenger isn't even in the same ball park as Seiko. Get yourself a Seiko and enjoy the quality.

Thanks for your comments; I value your opinions. I have three Seikos, one of which is one of the early self winding models that was given to me in 1973. I've never had a problem with it.

I'll stick with Seiko; I'm looking at the SNQ007.

Thanks.

No contest Seiko or an eco-drive Citizen. I've always been a Seiko man and still love 'em but for the past 2 years I've been wearing eco-drive. Also Bulova Marine Stars are very good. Course so is any Rolex oyster but that's a whole other ballgame:D

I"ve got several of both. In general, what I've found is that my Wengers seem to go through batteries quicker and I've had bracelets break during hard use. I like them both, but I'd give the Seiko the edge for overall quality and timekeepping accuracy.

Wengers are OK watches, in that they tell time. They're OK for the money but only if you get them on ebay, closeout, or similar. You can get a nice enough one for $50, give or take, from Big 5, marked down from like $150. For $50 it's nice, better and nicer looking than a Timex or Casio, but for $150, get a Seiko.

I just saw a bunch of hamiltons and wegners (but no Seikos) on sale at tj maxx, just a heads up.

Not trying to start anything but I think that says it all.

Pound for pound Seiko and Citizen both make the best watches on the market. Also the Bulova Marine Stars and more expensive Accutron line are very impressive. I own all of the above and find the quality to be excellent across the board, but I do have a preference for Seiko mechanical divers, esp. the 007.
