i have been playing with my newly acquired Sharpmaker. the instructions suggest using the 40 degree option for sharpening; saving the 30 degree to "remove shoulders from oversharpened knives". i use my EyeBrand sodbuster a lot landscaping and had thinned the edge down to 18 degrees with my Edgepro. so i used the coarse rods at 30 (now 15 degrees per side) and then the 40 degrees fine rods to microbevel (20 degrees per side). i know it is sharp because i did the TEST: (inadvertently) i had the 3rd digit of my right hand in the way as i gently closed the blade and felt NOTHING and thought "this isn't that sharp", until the blood began to flow freely. "wow, this is sharp, whoopee".
this 30/40 combo seems sensible to me. are others doing it that way too ? if not; why not ? thanks, roland
