ShepardCC: Custom Knife Scales & Backspacers **Books OPEN**

Do you make scales for a Spydie Domino? Looking for carbon fiber.

Yes sir! I can make scales for most knives Mark. What kind of Carbon Fiber did you want for the domino? 1x1 Checkered, 2x2 twill, marbled cf, blue 1x1 cf, blue 2x2 cf, lscf, colored lscf, silver twill, or blue twill?

So many options lol

You have photos of any of these?

I had no experience with marbled CF, but picked up this knife from Brian on the Exchange last week and have been posting pics around BF since I got it. Eric did these scales and backspacer for B and I sure do like 'em! The marbled CF is not grippy at all, but feels so good in hand, is gorgeous to my eye, and the workmanship is impeccable. Eric, after having gotten beaten up around here for communication and responsiveness issues, recent reviews and feedback indicate you seem to have turned a corner. Props to you if that's the case, as you do some fine work!

Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to say all those nice things. Yeah I was having a supplier issue. I've since stopped using them and no longer work with some materials because they were the only maker of them. Sucks. But what can you do

Yup he took some some heat. I recently had a trade with Shepard and this is what I got.

Insane work is what Eric does, this Hinderer is ridiculous and it's smoother then some ZT's I've had. I think I found my custom scale guy. Eric do you do griptilian scales?

Large grip. I like these made by Igored.

Chazzy that Tabargan 👍

Well that Hinderer you got is pretty sweet too, NFD. I know you have or had a couple others from the pics of your pair you posted a while ago in my "Pairs" thread. Guess you're a fan of those. They've interested me, but I have no experience with Hinderers.

Yeah I can definitely make those.

ChazzyP. Hinderer is not the best towards his customers. He's been a big hypocrite with his statement "Hinderer knives, make it your own" and then banning people who post pics of custom scales, blade mods, and custom ano work. He's also banned people for comparing his knives to others and anyone that talks bad about his work. Late lockup, sticky lock face, and don't flip good. His team did a good job locking all that stuff up and keeping it controlled. But there was too much to control and they took a big hit when people stopped going crazy to buy his knives.
Most of the time his knives would sell out within hours of being on a knife site. Now they sit for days, even months.
Recently he's changed his warranty policy to try to regain business by allowing mods, custom scales, and another work.
I think this is a move in the right direction for him.
I do really love his knives. At one point I was selling off all my Hinderer collection because of all the crap but..I really like his knives. They fit my hand perfectly and there were a few of them that flipped awesome and I couldn't let them go. I came to the conclusion that I don't need to like the maker to like the knife and my favorite hinderers I bought on the secondary market so I didn't directly give my money to him. Lol.
But now that that policy has changed and you are allowed to mod your own property without being banned and outcast, I'm happy.
I know there are a lot of would be knife pimpers/customizes that really mess up knives and you don't want to warranty someone destroying their knife. But for guys like me and others in here with good reputations who know what we are doing, I don't think it should void any warranties.

Anyway...long story short. If you are interested in hinderers now is the time. It's a buyers market and they are awesome knives. Flipping consistency can vary greatly so you may have to buy and trade for a couple to find one that really suits your tastes. Which is fine because you can try out the many different blade shapes at the same time.
Skinner and Harpoon are my favorite.
I just wish they would do more 3v steel and 20CV steel runs.

Dream Hinderer= Fatty 3.5 Skinner in 3v two tone.

Thanks for the info and your perspective, Eric. I've noticed that Hinderer prices are much more reasonable on the Exchange in the last year. I've also noticed that there are a lot more of them available, but they don't linger on the market for long. I'm trying to damp down my buying a bit over the fall/winter as I went kinda nuts this summer with a little extra dough in my pocket. Of course, there are always those that you've had your eye out for and if the right one pops up, well, you now how that goes....

Same here. I've never bought any of my Hinderers from him.
