Check out the #15 Huckleberry Boys Knives - no blade etch on those
Edit: whoops, nevermind, forgot you were looking for a stockman :)

Mate, GEC makes great stockmans, I had one delivered last Tuesday. And there's no hustle with customs either.

And got one about week earlier

Don't worry about the etch, just use it and don't clean it back to polished condition. This GEC 85 has done some kitchen chores and the etch is invisible:

I have to agree with elof_alv - GEC makes a great stockman. I purchased this #53 a while ago, but just started using it recently and it's incredible!
Highlights include - nice, sizeable handle feels great in hand, esp. for long periods of use; all blades sit well within the frame, making for an extremely comfortable stockman (like your Buck 303, and the 301) - I really like the stockman pattern but I find most of the ones I've tried uncomfortable for extended use - not this one! If I could change one thing it would be a pen or coping blade instead of the spey, but other than that, no complaints
