I wanted to pass on some of my favorite law resources. They have searchable databases so it is fairly easy to look up information.

American law Source on-line

Find Law State Resources

Federal and State law resource locator

All Law

Lexisone

I sometimes go to Knife laws of the 50 states but prefer looking the laws up myself.

Some sources for our Canadian neighbors:

Dennis,

I've found alllaw.com to be a good source that allows you to search state code.

Take care,

Mike

Thanks, Dennis and others. I would have sworn I had links to most of the sites you provided. If I did, I managed to choose a folder that is completely unrealistic for such bookmarks.

Now, I have them where I can find them, when needed.

Very complete and informative sources!! Appreciate it!

well the link to the laws of all 50 states was useful.. I first researched myself in the Massachusetts General Laws then double checked with your link.. and In Ma. I can find no length restriction. Its amazing to me how many ppl have been led to believe that in Ma. 6in is the legal length and anything over that is illegal! I have spoken to different police officers from Differnt Towns.. and the only one that told me there was NO length restriction was a drunk Barnstable cop... why do they perpetuate the lie??? Simply Amazing!

You would be amazed at the lack of knowledge of many officers. It really is sad. Although, their defense, I will say that there is no way for a LEO to know every law on the books. It helps to keep a copy of state and local law in your car for reference.

I would think that the Legal length of a Weapon would be up in the TOP 10 things every Officer should know about! :(

I split this thread and locked the other one just in case this gets a little off track. ;)

I agree that should be one of the top ten laws that officers should know. Unfortunately many don't. Not sure why. I know the weapons laws where I work, but then again I am a knife and gun nut. You would be amazed how many officers are really social workers with a badge and gun!
