Someone talk me into or out of buying a Strider SNG..

Well I personally have no attraction to a knife that has a deep downward slope toward the blade and a blade that is 20% choils. It’s like choosing to stand facing downhill while using a table saw. Not the most practical for actual use, and definitely not as BA as one might think.

That being said, if you really like it, get what you want. But if you’re wondering if you’ll get a superior knife for the price point, you 100% will not. There are far better options, that are better quality, just as tough, and have better ergonomics and cutting geometry, at a much lower price.

I remember I started a thread on Strider some years ago. There were lots of interesting, informative, educational, and fun responses in that thread (including flying private male parts;)). OP may want to read it a bit.

Anything marked M.Strider is good to go. There were some bad batches peppered in the Dwyer/Strider years. So if you're just looking to check out the design, get a new model and don't overpay. They're not worth more than a couple bucks over retail, imo.

I'm probably just going to buy one and if I don't like it I'll flip it for something else. After making a couple calls last night, I found a guy I know who has a SNG PD1 Aluminum GG. Said he would take 500 for it. My edc is already a large Inkosi. Flipper on Hinderers never agreed with my hand, but I may pick another one up if I could find a non-flipper version.
That's a solid buy 👍

I have owned many SnG's over the years(though none now), and like the model. A lot comes down to what configuration you like. You may love one configuration, and be ho hum about another. My favorite was a Franken Strider-a mix of GG and CC. The secondary market has gotten a bit pricey for my tastes, so I don't know if I will have another.
If you have the desire, the only way to satisfy it is to get one. That said I think the CRK is a better all around knife, and you could save a lot of money putting it in your pocket and moving on with life, but then you likely would not be on a knife forum.

I wasn't crazy about my Striders and sold them, but the customer service was great. long story short, I dropped one about 30 feet onto a concrete pad below. The knife was close, but the G10 was damaged to the point it would not open. I sent it in to Strider to see if they could replace the G10 and admitted the fault was all mine. They just replaced the entire knife, no questions asked, and even upgraded it to a more expensive knife. A good warranty goes a long way. The knife just wasn't for me though.

If you like the design and simply want one, get it.

I think there are better knives out there for the money though.

If you can get one direct, at retail price, I think it's worth trying one out just to scratch the itch. I've had a few over the years and never kept them around very long. I will admit, I am a knife fidgeter and if they were on bearings, I would probably still have one.

Mickey ray burger (strider) is a piece of crap.

Don't support scumbags who lie about military service. There's a long history here on bladeforums.com if you use the search function.

Wannabe ranger should be embarrassed to show his face. Some people have no shame.

Strider knives (much like the guy's cooked up Ranger HSLD special forces stolen valor backstory) are crap. I mean, who doesn't like a knife with a blade that's like, 40% choil, amirite?
A Spyderco collab would be a match made in heaven for choil weirdos!

So I've been on a buying/selling kick the last couple of weeks. Just getting rid of older stuff and trying some new ones out. And now I've got my eye on a Strider. I'm not getting into the drama surrounding Mick, just interested in the knives.

I have never owned a Strider, tho I have had a ProTech Strider auto so I know that the ergo's will be fine. Really just trying to finish out the holy trinity I guess. I've had every Chris Reeve, my daily for the last year has been a large Inkosi. I've had multiple Hinderer's, tho the ergos have never agreed with me, something with the flipper tab and my index finger knuckle.

Last on the list is Strider, would be buying used, so will definitely be over paying which is what it is. Will be getting a SNG opposed to a SMF as I already have too many large folders. Will probably be going with PD1 tho that's not set in stone.

So what's the opinion? What has been your experience with your Strider's?

Any other knives in that 500-800 price range that I should look at that are similar and sort of fill that same role? Looking for something that's currently available, whether new or on the secondary market.
Lemme try to talk you out of a Strider knife. And this is not due to his stolen valor and controversy. But an actual purchase made from Knife Center 2 months ago.
I bought this knife for $300. And the specs were a bit misleading and lacking info such as blade grind and angle that would have changed my mind about Mr Strider.

Upon arrival the blade was dull as a butter knife. Scratched up a bit, The finish wearing off from a few withdrawals from the Kydex sheath. Near half inch spine and super steep blade bevel that cannot be sharpened to the point of shaving or even a good work sharp due to the geometry. I even spent $20 to have it professionally sharpened. Ruining the return policy from KnifeCenter.
Well the pros did improve the blade sharpness but it was still working sharp and not able to cleanly slice paper. Even after I put a honing steel on it. It would barely slice paper. And the knife would struggle cleanly cutting paracord and small bamboo sticks. No other knife I had ever owned had trouble cutting baby green Bamboo that is less than a quarter inch thick.
If you get a Strider and like it. That is great and I realize that the SNG has better geometry than my fixed blade.
However. The pisser for me is that I have tried to call Mr Strider and sent a few Emails over a month ago asking him if he would redo the blade angle so I could use it for work purposes.
He has not once reached out to me to help or offer any services.
So now I am stuck with a knife that indeed looks awesome. But has the cutting ability of a crow bar. And I am very turned off that I spent $300 on a new knife that I cannot get serviced or even a simple reply from M. Strider.
The knife came to me in an ugly cheap box with no insulation or plastic to cover the knife during shipping. It was never opened. So Mick is to blame. Not KnifeCenter.
Not to mention the cheapskate would not even add a tek lock or clip to the sheath to clip to your belt. For $300. That should be a given.
Also, due to his bad history and lying about his service. Expect many to not want to buy your Strider if you ever decide to sell it.

You do as you please. and I wish you the best. But, putting his lying and stolen valor aside. I will pass on any more Strider products since he did not even try to offer me any customer service.
I feel a bit ripped off and taken. And stuck with a knife that is not good for anything other than looking cool and stabbing. And it struggles to even stab a few layers of cardboard due to the blade grind.
But, I blame myself for impulsive purchasing and should have sent it back to KnifeCenter instead of having it sharpened professionally thereby voiding the warranty.
Had Mick Strider simply responded to my many requests to offer to regrind my blade edge into something more useful. Instead of ignoring me. I would not have a problem or complain about the knife.
But he showed me that he did not care about his own customers. A $300 mistake I will never make again. Now I am stuck with this thing and cannot resell it for even half of what I put into it. The knife I received had an edge that was way too steep/overground and looked nothing like in the picture.Screenshot 2022-03-17 133349.png

I hope the OP listens to your sound advice and post. I wish I had listened to someone on this forum before trying out one of Striders fixed blades.

I have a Hinderer fixed with black coating that marks up in and out of the kydex. That’s life. To expect a maker to regrind ur blade is a little ambitious. Haven’t heard of others doing that after use and sharpening. U should have sent it back 🤷🏻‍♂️

BTW rizza32 since you like to laugh and poke shame at others misfortunes you been placed on ignore. I don't find humor in such nonsense and bad misfortune unlike yourself.
