Something like an OSS but w a bit more massive blade

Boker plus had a nice heavy integral dagger called Schanz (model 02B0180). It went out of production recently and you might be able to get a good one on the secondary market.

Strange thing about all of the Cold Steel models above, none of them came very sharp which is strange because all my other Cold Steels are incredibly sharp. Maybe they decided these are more for stabbing so they didn’t need very sharp edges? 🤔.
My OSS is sharpened unevenly: the "main" edge is more or less uniform, although there are some areas which don't cut the paper as efficiently. The "top" edge is sharpened less well and less evenly, it cuts or in some places it rips paper.

Thanks, but that is more heavy in hilt and guard than blade.

I have the OSS, Black Bear Classic, and the OSI. This Tops blows them all away

Probably those darn sheathes dulling the blades

Another one to consider is the Cold Steel Wasp. One piece drop forged dagger and very stout.

I have one if these too. In my estimation, the blade is too narrow and thick to have suitable geomerty to host 24-30 degree inclusive secondary bevels. As a double edge, would have to be a bit broader in pattern form.

The search continues, for some sort of ~8" fighting Bowie with a very long clip that is, or can be, sharpened. I will observe that I am now aware of the Randall bear Bowie, which is like something out of my mind's eye, but I don't know if I could afford or find this, but that is something seems ideal in design, would be a good fighter and decent cutter.

So I got the Begg knives Filloso, large, 8" dagger. Got one w/ this really handsome dark grey finish. Still cant get a straight answer on whether it is Aus or 1095, descriptions for these are all over the place on diff sites. But it does take an edge and it is tepered, does flex a bit of you try, unlike some other chinese daggers that are brittle like a file.

it is flat ground, not hollow, and broader than the OSS, so it has that little bit of heft to give it some power for snap and back cuts, or chopping or slashing, unlike the holllowground OSS though the dagger style blade is not ideal for backcuts. FYR, feels very similar in heft to this Ontario..I think it is SP6, which would be 8" vietnam/Sog/Model 14 style knife, of 3/16 stock..

. Handle/guard/ricaso design is also EXCELLENT for holding in a "shovel" type grip w/ the thum in that dip there, that and profile of the handle, the curve, fits perfectly in my paul. It is also excellent in hammer or handshake grip.

Handle scales are a bit thin, however. The grip is not filling enough for XL size hands, but will give it a silicone tape wrap till maybe make new scales.

There aren't any good options for exactly what you're describing here, besides literally a smatchet. And no one makes a good smatchet anymore.

I honestly don't see the utility in what you're describing.

Hello, does anyone know of a knife similar to a Cold Steel OSS something 7.5-9” fully double edged, or nearly so, and very pointy, but that has a bit more mass in the blade?

Does not have to be a subhilt or a clip point shape, necessarily, could be a dagger so long as it is nice and pointy.

I carry daily OSS or a peace keeper 1, or a Al Mar Shadow, large. They are all wonderful and easy to carry, but looking for something similar but w just a bit more mass in the blade for cutting power.

I tried the black bear classic, which is heavier, but basically identical to the OSS, but all of that weight is n the handle, so it not worth the extra weight to carry, especially high iwb over the OSS

TaiPan, i have, but is not very pointy and not biggest fan of the handle, and again, most of weight is in handle w light hollow ground blade.

Love the shadow, seems the most perfect lightweight dagger, perfect handle, blade geometry that is pointy af and can take acute edge bevels, but the ideal knife would have a bit more cutting power

Only thing i can think of, which i am kicking myself for not having bought years ago is Entrek Ranger or Recon.

ETA: ended up getting this Begg Large Filoso, or one similar, in dark gray. Really has that slight heft, compared to the OSS.

What about the Joker Lince made in Spain? You can get different materials for the handle from bull horn to olive wood.

Applegate "Smachet"?

Look at the discontinued CRK one piece knives, high buy hefty and "hell-for-stout" as they often sday here in Texas. . . .or the similar but less costly Schrade one piece line, also discontinued.

Does it have to be a dagger?

Excellent suggestion. I used a Project 1 for sticking hogs when I lived in Tx. A perfect knife for that.

Begg appears to offer the knife in both 1095 and AUS 10.
AUS 10 blades are bare steel with a satin finish.
1095 knives have PVD coated blades.

So if yours is coated, it's 1095.

I can attest to this. I have a RS in CPM3V and the swedge is sharp enough that I wouldn't want to run my finger down it with any pressure. Kind of wish it wasn't so sharp; it isn't the best design feature for batoning.
Cold steel recon scout in 3v has a sharpened swedge already. As does the trail master. The survivalist could be sharpened and it's inexpensive.
