Spec Bump thoughts

Well I just got my Spec Bump in the mail from Island Tactical which incidentally I got on sale for $73.95 with FREE shipping and until now I never knew there was a safety device on this cool knife until I read this forum thread! My minds alot more at ease knowing that this wicked blade won't accidentally open in my pocket thanks for the info guys you saved me from a potential "John Bobbit" incident! <BG>!

Well guys I just received my Spec Bump in the mail from Island Tactical  and incidently I only paid $73.95 for it shipped! I didn't even realize that there was a safety device either the instruction sheet I got was for a leek model had it not been for this forum thread I might have had a "John Bobbit" :( incident in the making YIKES!!!

does that spec bump with sandvic steel have the same handle pattern & g10 as the 154cm version?

For lack of a better name, I'm calling the G10/Sandvik model the pseudo bump. 75 dollars makes more sense now. I should be ordering one in a week or so, if finances hold up.

See previous pics posts #16 mine looks like that one and for $73.95 shipped from Island Tactical in Vegas! I love it!

The one with the Sandvik steel is a Speed Bump not a Spec Bump.

To my knowledge there is no G10 made Spec Bump with Sandvik steel.

The Speed bump can be had for as low as $64 and has a molded handle.

There's a difference.

denny,

I bet your knife doesn't have G10 handles and it's a satin finished blade right? Not black.

how does that black dlc coating hold up? not too crazy about any blade coating, seems like an easy way out of satin finishing(except m2).....

Quite the contrary I do have the satin finished model blade it does have G10 handles and the Box has a sticker on the side that reads:"SPECBUMP 1596SVBL Polished G-10 Handle" I think your wrong as I see this model on ebay all the time and dealers have it exactly like I have! I am no rookie on knives I have plenty and know plenty. I know what G-10 is and own many Benchmades and Kershaw Talons with G-10 its unmistakable this model (do a search on Google) is readily available might have been an earlier model?

Denny,

Sorry Joe I'm still getting used to posting on this forum quite different on this from the Vulcan Bike forum Sorry no intentional posts were needed MY bad dude peace!! ;)

It's called the stud lock...it's the thumbstud from normal knives, but it can be pushed up (torwards the blade tip) against the resistance of a spring in the blade. The stud gets over a little hump in the handle when open and gets stuck on the other side...the hump is gradual on the forward side, so the stud can slide up and over, but on the other side, it's straight up and down, so the stud can't go anywhere, and is locked. Then you can push the thumbstud up (torwards the tip) and it will raise up enough to clear the bump on the handle.

Difficult to explain, but very simple in operation.

The studlock works exactly like the axis principle but using the thumbstud. It has all the plus of the axis system like,
- self compensating for wear,
- difficult to accidently unlock,
- works even if the spring broke ( by using a small piece of wood to wedge the bar on the axis or stud. )

Because the stud is so near the pivot, it does not hang on stuff being cut.

Got the 154cpm spec bump from Roger of www.knifeworks.com and am planning to get the sandvik series with the starburst or polished g10. Have no worries about the slickness of polished g10 as I also have the first Onion collab Randomtask with s60v and Minitask with ats34.

Can u tell that I like them!!! :)
