Spyderco Para 3 in S45VN or Maxamet?

Faced a similar decision recently and decided to purchase a new Para 3 in CPM S45VN with Camo G10 (SC223GPCMO) for $157.50 including tax & shipping.

As others stated, S45 is a well balanced stainless steel. S45 is not as hard and won’t hold the edge quite as long as Maxamet but, S45 is more corrosion resistant, tougher and likely easier to sharpen. Regardless, if I could have purchased Maxamet version for only $20 more, I would have. Hopefully the entire Military family will be available in MagnaCut Steel someday soon. Paramilitary 2 Salt version will get me to open my wallet just as soon as it’s available for preorder.

Owned my Para 3 for a month or so then had fun customizing it with orange flytanium scales, blue flytanium hardware and a flamed Lynch clip. Knife disassembly was easy and it went back together with no problems at all. I looked closely at the blade — to me, factory edge geometry seemed perfect and it came out of the package extremely sharp. Still is!

I have purchased several new knives from Spyderco recently. They seem to be at the top of their game.

Eager to learn what you decide and if you plan on customizing it. Good luck and have fun with your purchase decision!

Well I broke down and bought a maxamet para3 and a skinny scale set at a nice price (but not $177 that was mentioned here😒).
