Spyderco Reveal 18

Some good looks, but as someone casually getting into Spyders, this tells me I might as well cancel my Harpy preorder. No mention at all since January.

Some nice older models making a return is always good to see. Lots to be interested in this time around, but pricing will keep me away from the majority. I'll probably only end up with a Stretch XL in Spy27.

The stealthy all-black Police is nice but not $285.00 nice for VG-10 and black TiCN coating. On the other hand, the stealthy all-black Manix2 XL with MagnaCut, black bi-directional textured G-10 and black DLC coating is a relative bargain at $224.25.

The Chaparral Red Dark Matter Fatcarbon looks great but it’s still XHP which rusts easily and a pricey $318.75.

The Starmate Sprint is another nice one with better steel but pricey at $337.50.

Good to see the Mule Teams in both PlainEdge and SpyderEdge. Also, MagnaMax which is the latest from Dr. Larrin Thomas of MagnaCut fame.

Para 3 and Manix 2 lightweights in BD1N are around the $130 mark, which seems okay (although getting tricky to justify since we remember them being sub-100 not too long ago). I think $172 for FRN and BD1N is a big ask. I probably won’t pay it.

At some point, Spyderco may realize that this whole "Reveal" system is costing them sales. Using the Harpy as an example, if it had been available when announced, I would have impulse bought one, no problem. I had plenty of time to talk myself out of that. Same will happen with most of the knives I commented on above. I'm in the mood to impulse buy today, but nothing is available.

If I handle the new black Police at the SFO, I'll probably have to have it. But Ram is right, too freakin' expensive for sure but that's never stopped me before. The Moran at 375 and no handle upgrade is likely a huge no go. The sheath can't be that nice.
