Spyderco Reveal 18

I was thinking the same thing! Micarta or G10 would be more appropriate considering the beautiful Damasteel blade.
I don't want to discourage them, though, I'd like to see a lot of Damasteel Spydercos and it's a rare steel choice for them.

Magmamax eh? I must be behind on my steel news. :)
Steady on . . .
I'm just cruising the reactions before watching the main event .
What ever the Gods of blade call it , probably means more vanadium .
It'll all end in tears . Mark my words .

You will know the end time when we reach solid 100% Vanadium and one sharpens by Flintknappiing or will it be VanKnapping . One hunk of Vanadium against another . . .
I took a knap in a van once .
anyway
After REX121 and my second (probably last ) CPM 15 V (that arrived THIS MORNING ! ! Praise Bob !) I have stopped looking at blade alloys . I'm THERE BABY !

I could be cajoled into the BBB designed folder when it arrives .
Yah just like I would be cajoled into showing up if they start handing out free gold bars at the end of my street ! ! ! ! !
Probably set a personal best time from landing in cart to hitting the BUY button .

. . . OK . . . what else do we have here . . .

Wouldn’t a fluted titanium military with Damasteel blade be the ultimate?

I wrongly thought the Moran was produced with G10 or Micarta in the past…seems it’s always been a lightweight! Some history from a thread on Spyderco forums:

1995 - FB01 is introduced at the end of 1995 (leather sheath, mirror finish, convex grind). Less than 1,000 produced with the first 50 serial numbered and the Bill Moran signature colored gold.
1997 - Kydex sheath mentioned in the catalog description, replacing the original leather sheath.
1998 - Second generation FB01 released (flat grind, satin finish blade, Kydex sheath). Mirror polish still appears in the catalog description, though.
1999 – Catalog description mentions the mirror polish and leather cross-draw sheath, although they're no longer features.
2000 - Catalog description mentions the sheath is now Concealex and includes a photo of the sheath with a Tek-Lok.
2001 - FB02 drop point blade model appears in the catalog (late 2000 production).
2002 - Kydex sheath mentioned in the catalog description.
2004 - SKU change with P for plain edge, added to model numbers - FB01P, FB02P.
2006 - William Francis Moran, Jr. passes (May 1, 1925 – February 12, 2006).
2008 - Blade brand identification hole appears in the catalog photo. G-Clip mentioned in the description.
2009 - FB02OR orange handle sprint run (1,200 units). Boltaron sheath mentioned in the catalog description.
2010 - FB02PBBM (Air National Guard contract, black blade knife, custom sheath attachment plate - 225 produced).
2011 - Handle lanyard hole appears in the catalog photos. FB02BB (black blade) introduced in the catalog (through 2014 catalog).
2012 - Catalog photo with Moran signature moved to the right side of blade (to present).

The fact that they're doing a Moran in Damasteel gives me hope about a Lum Tanto reissue in Damasteel with the polished micarta.

Here’s a clip from the info that was in the link to Spyderco forums. Moran was known for Damascus blades, probably why Spyderco made this sprint run. I’m a sucker for Damasteel.

“If you were into knives during the last three decades of the 20th century, the name Bill Moran needed no introduction. Moran was a self-taught knife maker responsible for rediscovering and popularizing the art of forging Damascus steel. He was also a former president of the Knifemakers' Guild, founder of the American Bladesmith Society, and a prodigious teacher who delighted in sharing his skills and knowledge. Moran's custom knives were a rare combination of beauty and function; and people knew it. There was a twenty year waiting list to get one of his forged blades and his art knives were collected by celebrities, royalty, and museum

I really like the Microjimbo design and somehow haven't managed to get one.
I don’t want to say they are awesome (cause I want them to be always available 😂🤣) but…they punch way above how small they are.

Here it is in my hand…

Choked up to the flat portion…

And size comparison with the Yojimbo 2

If you go for one…let me know what you think of it. :)

I agree with K Kiteman72 that the whole Reveal thing has gotten old…and takes away the impulse buy—which I guess is a good thing, hahaha!

It’s good to see SPY-27 still making its rounds. It’s nice to have a PM steel option through most of the catalog. (I’ll probably grab an Endura at some point).

I’m not sure I understand the Shaman LW, as it’s only a 9% weight loss. I am curious to see how the contoured scales translate into FRN though.

The Manix XL Salt is the one I may realistically pick up. I like having plenty of kayak/fishing knives on hand…but loosing them is getting expensive!

The new Chap looks amazing, and I love XHP (not for my kayak!). But for the price, I’ll keep rocking my Sun & Moon.

COBOL looks great…but not really my style.

Starmate? Oh man. Much want. Hopefully I’ll have a good minute to think about it.

Damasteel Moran…looks great, but I seldom carry fixed blades and when I do, it’s usually for something rather heavy duty.

I wish they would have left the Manix XL blade uncoated and got rid of the unnecessary jimping on the handle :-(

A spy27 police 4 is tempting but the more I use my vg10 one I just can't seem to justify it. Vg10 is still very capable in my eyes.

I agree it's not like it would cost them anything, might even bring the price down some?

Looks good, I was hoping for the Bodacious in something else than S30V. I love S30V, don't get me wrong, it's only that I already have two black Spydercos with silver blades in S30V and that blue handle looks good :)

At some point, Spyderco may realize that this whole "Reveal" system is costing them sales.

Maybe... but I don't know for sure. On one hand, the Reveals build hype. That's what every advertising executive wants.

For me, sometimes I'll see a cool knife in a Reveal, so I'll hold off buying a similar knife that was on my radar. The "other" knife is a lost sale.

I'm also an impulse buyer. I'll get excited about a knife in the Reveal and set up a pre-order. After many months of waiting, I'll realize that my enthusiasm has waned, and I'll cancel the order.

Neither of these scenarios really matters, though. I have enough knives and don't NEED more. I just buy something when it strikes my fancy. And I don't think Spyderco is hurting for sales. They're always sold out of plenty of different models.

Hm.. I like the Cobol, but I prefer PB washers. I also like the backlock Lil Native, but not sure if it can kick the Chap out of my pocket. Plus I think I will buy the 15V Native anyway. But it is a good release, for sure.

Disappointed in the ridiculous prices but that goes for pretty much everything knife-related nowadays. How do you justify a $113 premium on a black-coated knife over the standard model? No upgraded steel or scales just the coating? Plus $337 for the Starmate?? That Chapparal for $318 with a sub-3 inch blade? Holy God.... its ludicrous.

Sadly, I'm going to have to kiss this hobby goodbye. I'm going to get just one more -- either the Endura in SPY27 if it ever makes an appearance or maybe the Military Salt or the Manix XL Salt, one of the two -- and then its sayonara.

Sad times, the first knife I ever bought was a Spyderco back in the early 90s but its crazy now. Just about everything now is over $200 a pop. Can't justify that. It's a rich man's game now.
