Spyderco Roadie?

as a new york city resident, it gets a LOT of pocket time, much more than i anticipaed. This is the only knife i feel 100% comfortable carrying, because no cop in his right mind will want to show up in court and testify i had a "dangerous knife" :D

I recently tested the waters and left it on my keys entering a spot with pretty tight security (empty all pockets, metal detectors, and pat down). Not sure if the bouncer didn't notice it on my keys or didn't care, but i walked right by. maybe note worthy, this was in the VIP line, so not sure if going through general entrance would have made a difference.

I'm going to a music festival next weekend, and i'll update weather it makes it through security, if anyone is interested

I'd love a s110v model

lol i can't tell if you're joking or not... but sprint runs and/or other versions would be amazing.

since we're making requests now, i'll take one in a wood or micarta handle in M390 with a sliiightly thinner blade

Just received my order for two black Roadies. They are Xmas gifts for two of my brother-inlaws.

My first impression is "I am impressed with this little gem!". Solid, great fit and finish, unique looking and nice walk and talk for FRN.

Now my question is I went with black for the gifts, but I am curious as how the other colour offerings appear in natural light.
If I ordered one for myself I might go blue or red, but the black is a nice safe bet and I have actually seen one in person.

Is the red washed out? I like a nice rich red. Think fire truck or Santa suit. Is the blue the same blue we get on an Endura or Delica? Is the orange the Dragonfly orange?

I had the red and was disappointed with the color. washed out would be a good description of the color. if I ever get another roadie I would probably choose blue or grey

There are photos of my red one on page 3, but here's a comparison shot with a couple of other reds. It's not as dark and rich as the other red knives in the photo, but it's not washed out to where it looks pinkish.

This one probably has the best lighting (fluorescent, office, white background).

Here are some others in regular incandescent light.

I was given the red as a gift and thought it was less rich than I expected, I almost thought it was the orange one (my girlfriend said she hated the orange and it wasn't orange though haha). I like the color.

I think the bottom pictures represent the color well.

Wow, great comparison shots. Using a Victorinox to compare is brilliant. Thanks very much for that.

Thanks to all for responding!

Nice PM2 buy the way. I took a hard look at those and I am hoping they do a SFO PM3 like this in 2018.

I ordered one of these today. For about $35.00US, I HAD to add it to an order of Christmas gifts for the wife.

Looking forward to trying Spyderco’s take on a “traditional” knife.

What do you all know about the Spyderco Roadie? It's a slipjoint. Any reviews or opinions?
I was at Spyderco and bumped into Sal and his wife. I asked him what he was carrying and it was a prototype Roadie. When the actual knife came out I couldn’t get it sharp. I took it to Spyderco to sharpen and it still wasn’t sharp. They gave me a new one and I used a DMT sharpening system, ultra fine sharpmaker stones and stropped it and it’s just barely sharp. That’s a first for a spyderco for me and I’m an OLD Spyderco fan. Sal just has a soft heart and wanted to believe the Italian vendor was quality.

You've mentioned this before, and as was stated then, you seem to be the only one who has had this problem. And yet you know from your one experience that all the knives are not good. Mine sure is sharp

I love Spyderco. But the 2 Roadies I tried didn’t get sharp like the dozens of Spyderco’s I’ve ownsed. Just being honest. If you can’t be honest what’s the point of asking?

Honesty is fine, but you seem to imply that the problem is bigger than your two knives. Maybe that isn't your intent, but it comes across that way.

I have and used a Roadie. I found it easy to get head hair splitting sharp. I have had good sharpening experiences with the Italian Spyderco's I have and have had. Both the ones with N690 and the ones with Elmax.

My Fiance is a CrossFit coach and she has adopted my (her?) roadie as her callous trimming knife. I can get it sharp AF prettty easily and it sure seems to hold an edge!

Mine showed up today. Nice little knife. Well made, arrived super sharp and the blade is well centred. Opens and closes smoothly and easily.

It is smaller than I expected, but still a useful size.
