why say $600 when it never is listed as that by any authorized dealer? Marketing ploy right?

Wait, is ^this not a point?

Spyderco sells all of it's knives at MSRP to everyone, except OpFocus members who can buy 10 knives/yr from them at 50% off.

Authorized dealers are allowed to sell at no lower than MAP pricing which is 70% of MSRP. Not really a "marketing ploy" if you know how the system works. Some dealers suggest that MAP pricing is actually "discount" pricing but that is NOT the case.

No dealer is going to sell any Spyderco knives over 70% when all other dealers are selling at 70%. So, the true market price of Spyderco knives is at MAP pricing.

After a model is "discontinued," I believe that dealers can then sell Spydercos below 70% of MSRP but that just cuts into their profit margin and they are unlikely to do that unless they just want to get rid of them, which you do see now and then.

On the other hand, you'll see some dealers raise the asking price for certain discontinued Spyderco that are hard to find and still in demand.

When I 1st started collecting AND before I knew better, I was green enough to buy a couple of knives direct from Spyderco at MSRP (of course, they didn't tell me that I could buy them cheaper from a dealer) but I have more than made up for those "mistakes" since becoming an OpFocus member.

I mean if some people want to be sarcastic about it… technically there are many “points” on the knife.

But, you can be mad that I don’t think it’s stabby enough. I like when people buy knives just because I don’t like them. Spyderco is a good company. I appreciate people helping them out. :)

Shhhh! Don't tell all those traditional folks that their beloved sheep's/lamb's foot/wharncliffe blades don't have a point and can't be used for penetrating cuts.

😁
It's a secret! Damn it, sure people have been using them for hundreds of years and it's well known to people who know how to use a knife but it is a secret in these parts! Can't take you anywhere! 😜

I‘m loving the shifting of goalposts around.

“If people mock my beloved Stovepipe cleaver blade profile, I’ll just make a strawman argument about how said people don’t understand the value in (insert wharncliffe/sheepsfoot) blade profiles!”

Yep! Exactly. Because if I hate the stovepipe, I MUST hate the yojimbo, leek, and griptilian sheepsfoot. They’re practically the same knife, right?

You’re trying to make this all about you when it’s a thread about a knife.
