Ive been looking at the ukpk as well as the delica and chapperal. I like the fact that the ukpk is made here in the US, i know that isnt a factor for many people which is fine but i try to buy things made here if i can.
What are the experiences everyone has had with this particular spyderco. Im looking to buy a new knife but am kinda undecided as to whay to buy

I haven't owned a UKPK, but from what I have seen, it is a solid knife and has gotten pretty good reviews. But I assume you know that the UKPK is a slip joint, right? Of course, there's nothing wrong with slip joints, but if it is legal in your jurisdiction to carry a locking knife, that may be better. I think the general consensus is that if you live somewhere where locking knives cannot be carried legally (e.g., the UK), the UKPK is one of the best choices out there.

Out of those three, if money is not really an issue, I would get the Chaparral. Of course, you can't go wrong with the Delica, either, as it is a classic and one of the best EDC knives of all time.

I have the UKPK and its a great little knife. Good size, handle not too small, ever useful leaf shape, a knife able to be seen/used in most places, legal in more places than a knife with a lock.
All you need to keep in mind is to keep in mind, that there is no lock on the UKPK.

As for the Delica, thats a hard to beat knife if you want a knife with a lock on it.
The Delica gets high marks in my book.

UKPK is a sweet knife. The action is wonderful with nice, tight spring tension that inspires confidence in use.

I live in the US and am not legally bound to non-locking knives. I just love a good slippie. Also check out the Wasp from Manly or anything from Three Rivers if you’re looking for an excellent slipjoint.

This thread needs pics.

True to form BF advice: Get them both as they are great knives.

I am torn between a little smaller knife and a manix 2. Love them all

My UK PEN KNIFE is right now in my pocket and it is a great blade. I don't regret its purchase. Not the best bang for the buck in the way that you can get a lot more knife (usable blade) if you opt for a more basic line (scales) but all in all, I like it.

Great knife, it feels a lot like the Caly 3 in hand. Its a slippie if it gets hung up on cardboard it can close on your finger but otherwise a great knife.

Earl, I would start off with the Delica 4. You have to own one anyway :) You won't regret it, and then you can always get the UKPK and others afterwards. Like I said, people seem to really like the UKPK and it seems like a great knife. But I think the Delica would be a better starting point.

I have enjoyed my ukpk for years, a great knife imho

I have heard the same from almost everyone who has had the UKPK, and it makes me want to pick one up for myself.

But if there are no locking knife legal restrictions, would you recommend the UKPK over a Delica? Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to start a "which is better argument." But this thread is about choosing between or among the UKPK, Delica, and Chaparral. Just curious as to whether you think the UKPK is so good that it trumps the Delica in some way, even in a situation where the prospective buyer faces no locking knife restrictions.

I have one.

I haven't used or carried it but I think it would be very useful knife or general purposes; provided that your knife needs/desires are minimal and if there is any knife laws that makes carrying other knives illegal where you live/travel.

The finger choil gives you some extra stability. You should be able to do most tasks without worrying about it closing on your fingers. It has a half stop also.

Again, I have no doubt the UKPK is a great knife. Like I said, I wouldn't mind buying one for myself. But if legal restrictions don't apply, my personal choice would be the Delica. And for a little more money, the Chaparral. The Chaparral, especially the FRN version, is basically the Delica 5. It's very similar to the Delica but with improvements, mainly in adding the forward finger choil. To this day, I still don't understand why they haven't added the choil to the Delica 4. There is already an area below the blade that they could easily convert to a 50/50 choil like they have on almost all of their other knives. A Delica with a forward choil would be virtually a perfect knife for me. That being said, the Delica is and always will be one of my favorites, and is a hall-of-famer for sure.

I don't have a Chapperal though I have always admired them. Mostly what they have going for them is the thin blade (I know I'm supposed to be talking about the UKPK), the handle shape and the blade shape of the Chapperal have not been the best for me so I have not purchase one yet. Keep in mind Nick Shabazz has now put the Chapperal over the Delica as best overall EDC in the world.

I have a couple of Delicas; now you are talking . . . good stuff !

But the UKPK oooooohhhhhh that is a nice knife ! In my view it will become as classic as the Buck 110. It is a very friendly knife to use. The stops on the blade are just right. Very firm but not so resistant to opening and closing that one can't fidget with the blade. It is just SO WELL DONE !

Mine is S110V. I'm not recommending nor dissuading you from getting that alloy but it is an inexpensive way to get some to find out of you like the steel. The S110V in mine is nicely hardened and heat treated. No complaints !

Bottom line yes I think it is a great product and many / most knife people need to try one just to see how good a "non locking" knife can be. I even like the blue in the handle on mine. In my view it is the perfect blue of the FRN and G10 handle options; love that blue.

EDIT TO ADD :
I've carried mine extensively in a mechanic's shop environment. No probs.
For cardboard I alway say use a box knife there is nothing better and the thinness of the blade makes it far better for double wall heavy boxes than any pocket knife. I've spent the last few years grinding pocket knives thinner and using all the recommended ones like the Cold Steel Tuff Lite and TF Mini.
Box knife wins; also keeps the tape glue on that knife and off your good stuff.

FOR AN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT the texture of the UKPK handle is less jarring to look at over the Delica. The Delica kind of shouts OUT DOORS and the finer texture of the UKPK is subtle yet still effective.
Blade Scout's perfect photo demonstrates that.

The Manix is HUGE compared to the UKPK.
I had one . . . once.
The Chapperal or the UKPK could make a nice second / smaller option while carrying the Manix.

Personally I've gone to the Dragonfly (ZDP-189) as a small knife while carrying my Endura 4 (also ZDP-189). I like more length and a narrower blade than the Manix also I strongly prefer the Endura handle over the Manix (notice the Endura handle is basically the same as the Delica . . . and the Dragonfly for that matter).

I am not a fan of Lockbacks that is why I have a ukpk. If you prefer a lock, get it. Should be the same quality with the lock being the only difference you should have a fine knife

I said the Delica is one of my all time favorites, but you mentioned the Dragonfly. That is my ALL TIME favorite EDC knife. Especially the ZDP-189 version.

So 1. Dragonfly, 2. Delica (for me) :)
