I have a few of the knives from Rough Rider's burnt sambar series from back in 2008 (Canoe, Trapper, and Copperhead), but the sowbelly is a beauty, and one that still eludes me.Spent most of the morning packing the car for our annual trip Up North to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and spent all afternoon driving. Made it safely to our destination and I've still got time to post the stag knives I carried this week.

Thanks.
I didn't start paying attention to pocketknives until 2014, so I missed those stag Rough Riders. But I happened to be in the right place at the right time about 7 years ago, and picked up pre-owned examples of RR stag copperhead, medium stockman, and sowbelly stockman. I think they're all first-class, but the sowbelly is definitely my favorite, being one of my two favorite patterns. My other favorite pattern is canoe, and I have a RR stag canoe that I'm guessing was made after the series you mentioned; I've never seen the RR canoe from that 2008 run. My canoe is nice, but it's quite pale, not "classic" stag:

Thanks for the additional info about the RR stag canoes. I thought my stag canoe had been made later than 2008 because I bought it NIB from a dealer in 2015. In fact, a year later, I ordered a couple more of them because I thought my first one was such a good deal. (I may have ordered 3 more but they only had 2 left; that sounds vaguely familiar to me.RR did the natural stag (with round shield) first, circa 2006. Then, around 2008 they did the burnt sambar series with the propellor shield. There are some very nice knives in both series, and RR has not done anything like them since. I particularly like the canoes from both series, they were an incredible value at the time. The first gen canoe, like yours, is another one I am always on the lookout for.
