Will, great blade color - is that patina or color case-hardening?

Old Hunter Bruce, thank you It doesn't look like that now, taken on a blacker hue. I find you get a nice blued patina from cutting any of the Onion family or Pears, then running under extremely hot water before drying. Acid etch from new on carbon steel or colour-case hardening does interest me but never had it done.

I've become quite fond of a big sheepsfoot blade with a simple wood handle; here's an example, an anchor knife from Watchman (Brother) in China:

The Schrade-Walden riggers knife. This is the second knife I bought from the estate. The Sailor served on the USS Portland LSD37, USS Iwo Jima LP42, and the USS Vogelgesang DD862 - glad I wrote these ships down on a scrap of paper when I bought the knives in 2013.

I served on the USS Portland LSD-37 from 1984-1987. Boatswains Mate 2nd class, Deck department, 2nd Division.
